Does anyone know where to get more info on the boat, have a simple two pager from the builder...guessing still in concept stage as they say they will only go ahead with 5 confirmed orders by the end of this month...

Great concept, just what I am looking for, but want to make sure it will have the capabilities of doing more than just sheltered waters windward leward racing (like to do some of the asian regatta's like kings cup and such...)...

How effective will a cat rig be upwind? Limitations?

Unirig upwind will be fine, but the driver will have to be careful to always get speed first and THEN point.

As a scaled up a-cat with a spin, this should be a lot of fun, the only real question is which is faster a furling flat screecher or a spinnaker.

How hard would it be for someone new to multihulls to sail this one fast and reasonably safe?

Probably not the best idea. This thing looks powered up and the foils on it are still in the "getting to know how they work" stage even for us multihull veterans.

There are reports that on the new Nacra F20 Carbon with the curved boards, that downwind in big breeze you actually need to send the crew forward to keep the thing from spinning out backwards!!!

So while it looks dead seksy, and since its a marstrom, it definitely will be, if you are new to multihull sailing then I'd find something a bit more benign to break yourself in on.

Welcome to the dark side though. We have cookies.

You are from Sweden. May I suggest you might find people in your country that will help on the learning curve with the Marstrom boat?

Agree with Mr.MauganNacra20 to some extent,

I sail with people that used to race Formula 40, and F18 is really booming here, so there will be no shortage of talent. And they tell me that this should be ok to handle with some focused training. I guess I should get into F18 but it's a bit to athletic

Hopefully the urge to race multihulls will fade soon, and I can go back to normal boats

If you can team up with some of your F18 buddies and listen to advice that comes from them and the guys at Marstrom, don't assume that you know anything, go for it! you won't want anything to do with lead ever again.

If Marstrom would build something to the 8.5 class rules, with an eye to trailering, I'd be very interested....
Would said hypothetical multi be much different than the hypothetical folding Seacart? I would bet not in price.
No, probably not. I was thinking more a easily demountable cat, like the M-32, which WOULD be a LOT cheaper, I think.

$175K*((8.5/9.7)^2.2)=$131K for a pretty cool boat.

But with the SEK the way it is, it probably doesn't matter.

Uh-Oh It looks like it has some sort of wings or racks. Now you know, you cannot have any wing boats in the GT300 or the Cuba Run. You can have wings in the Border Run because everyone is invited. What say you GT300 guys. Not allowed?
