Who _should_ be able to smash windows and climb through windows in off-limit areas after crossing police lines and being told repeatedly to leave, to stop, to go back?
Your statement suggests that in the middle of a riot involving thousands of protesters assaulting hundreds of police, police cannot defend themselves and those they are assigned to protect with deadly force.
Please cite the law enforcement standard or legal basis for your opinion, because it doesn’t match anything I’ve ever heard or read.
