The Skandia money I believe was the contract payout for the final 2 years which has now gone? Audi sponsorship was only a fraction for those 2 years so too carry on as naming rights they would have to stump a fair bit more, so they have had cheap exposure for a couple of years and now pulled the plug goss going round Gtown descision made 3 months ago?

What a fucking embarrasment this shit is for SYC, and to think they paid the useless cunt good money for this absolute rubbish.

A full three weeks after their Centenary event, their "publicity" officer churns out complete drivel in a video that would see a 6th grade schoolkid sent back to try again. It is full of irrelevant footage of yachts cruising between their finish and the next start, interviews with has-beens and all overdubbed with Mike Sabeys boring, droning voice waffling on with his usual misinformation. It looks like it was made up of out takes from the cutting room floor with fuck all actual racing coverage, virtually no coverage of the IRC/AMS premier events of the day and way too much coverage of the visiting Japanese drunks. (Oh yes, they were!!) It was a great day of sailing and celebration but this "Special Regatta Video" is a fucking woeful representation of it.

Special it aint, a fucking disgrace it is!

"Australia’s premier club"??????????????

Fishing club perhaps?

As for Geelong, maybe they could get the Lions Club back to do the catering. If they started selling beer tickets again they would easily recoup sponsorship money. I hate to think how many $$$$ ended up in a soggy mass in peoples pockets after the pants went through the washing machine.

Walrus' favourite band = Jethro Tull and his favourite song...

Living in the past.

Happy and I'm smiling,

walk a mile to drink your water.

You know I'd love to love you,

and above you there's no other.

We'll go walking out

while others shout of war's disaster.

Oh, we won't give in,

let's go living in the past.

Once I used to join in

every boy and girl was my friend.

Now there's revolution, but they don't know

what they're fighting.

Let us close out eyes;

outside their lives go on much faster.

Oh, we won't give in,

we'll keep living in the past.

Those of us old enough to remember the Lions Club burgers etc would also do well to remember how bloody awful they really were. Greasy, tasteless and garnished with lettuce as limp as Walrus, they were most definitely not gastronomic delights. The closest comparison I can think of at the moment would be anything from the RYCV kitchen.

As for the left over beer tickets, it only took those of us with any sort of intelligence one regatta to figure out the deal and after that we always left Geelong without surplus tickets .

Walrus must have been hanging out with piss weak drinkers or RYCV members if he regularly took tickets home.

Perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh in my criticism of RYCV; after all,I have many friends there, they do hold the Association Cup, they have a nice new 1970's style front fence and the largest fleet of Bluebirds in the known universe.

Go catch some more flathead, Flatbag.

As for Geelong, what sort of moron were you to eat Lions club hamburgers? They did credible bacon and eggs in the morning and we always went for Chinese food or suchlike in the evening.

I think we used to see you trying to race off the local bogan bushpig chicks on the lawn.

We saw you end up with this one, mate, I would have chewed my arm off if I woke up next to that like you did:

What are the odds of this happening on Port Phillip given the Div O boats have nowhere to play?

S80 Racy Lady sinks after collision in CYCA Winter Series

23 May 2011

The S80 Racy Lady sank within five minutes after colliding bow to bow with the Lyons/Cawse 60 Vanguard during the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's Audi Winter Series on Sydney Harbour yesterday.

A patrolling CYCA rigid-bottom inflatable and another nearby powerboat quickly rescued Racy Lady's crewmembers. A waiting ambulance at the CYCA took them to hospital for treatment and observation.

Dick Cawse, owner/skipper of Vanguard which last year won division A in the winter series, said he greatly regretted the incident and explained the circumstances as unavoidable.

He said that Vanguard had just started with division A on a course with a first leg to Robertson Point on a starboard two-sail reach in a 10-knot north-northeast breeze.

The collision with Racy Lady occurred about 30 seconds, or 150 metres, after the start. Racy Lady was racing with division H, which had started earlier on a course that took these smaller boats first to a mark off Garden Island, She was sailing the return leg down harbour on port.

Cawse said Vanguard was two-sail reaching with, as usual, lookouts posted on both the windward and leeward sides. "They must have been in our blind spot because we had the jib eased," said Cawse. "I was the windward lookout."

"We saw them, called them, but it was too late to avoid a collision," he said. "They didn't see us and we didn't see them.

"The moment it happened, their rig fell down on our foredeck."

"They sank within five minutes."

Vanguard dropped her sails and headed back to help the Racy Lady crew members in the water. Fortunately the CYCA RIB and the other powerboat were there within minutes.

Racy Lady co-owner Andy Lukas remained in hospital overnight while the other two crewmen were released. Vanguard broke her bowsprit and suffered minor damage in the collision.

"It was a bit scary," said Cawse.

CYCA communications officer Jennifer Crooks said both parties were providing details of the incident to NSW Maritime and the Water Police.
