Was driving up Beach Rd two night ago to see a rather larger boat (looked a bit like the old 65 ft Brindabella) aground of Beaumaris beach. Anyone know how it managed to get itself there?

Any experienced sailors interested in sailing on Smooth Criminal during the Festival of Sails Geelong regatta (23 to 26 Jan inclusive) please PM me. We need bow pit and trimmers as a number of crew have had to pull out due to work commitment changes.

SC is a Reichel Pugh Shockwave 36

a load of photos of the delivery to syc already posted to the MC31 stalker book page...

It was the old (original) 65ft Brinda. How did it get there? Start with stupidity and work backwards from there...
The old bus was sold to a Melbourne doctor a few months back. Apparently his intention was to take his family sailing & nothing more serious.

Not sure which of the family wants to don the harness & be hoisted 10 feet up the rig just to attach the main halyard, or who is going to grind them up there!

Lot of boat for what he paid though, & a great drive when powered up. She is just big & heavy enough to give you that old maxi feeling of raw POWER.

Two new MC31s in the yard @ SYC yesterday - keels being fitted. Rigs still in transit!! It'll be close to get them all together for FOS, but every attempt is being made - looking forward to seeing them in action!

Any tales of evil deeds in Geelong last weekend? Fleet looked pretty thin at the top end of IRC with far fewer interstate big boats.

Nice to see Bundy hasn't quite hit the dizzy heights of $10.00 a can down there.

Much hyped boats, the two MC31s looked the part but did they perform to expectations? Strong contenders for the Talk It Up Cup but cleaned up by Melges 32' for a bit more than a third the price.

MC31's were literally being put together on the way to the start line. A totally new package with the expected teething probs (backstay posn, vang throw, halyard(un)locks)

Initial observations are that they looked a little sticky in the lighter patches, but honestly, it's way too early to make any kinda call...except that it's a pricey unit that doesn't rate - so unless there are going to be a fair few more of them to class race....hmmm

Should add that the Sydney 38's had a fleet and good solid honest competitive racing.....value!

Quite a few Archi's out there - 40, 35 and 31 footers - regardless of bullshit handicaps (the majority of the fleet sailed AMS Div 1 just to mix it up in fleet)they were having some nice tight fought clashes and was good to see them rafted up together on the dock sharing beers and stories.

Star attraction of the entire regatta was the beautifully restored wooden classic Windward II.

As for tall tales of evil deeds - those days are gawn - Average age of the FOS sailors has got to be mid 50's - our sport is geriatric....but that's for another thread!

How many VX one's for the price of an MC31? I was genuinely shocked to see that many south of the border!

Congrats to the Fareast 28 guys on their line and handicap results :)

I heard whispers of a 60 ft one design fleet also?
