So here’s the big question. I believe some folks did charter a few boats? Did they bring pros or not? How did they do? But most importantly did they have fun and plan on chartering again or buying a boat. Sorry, thats actually a bunch of questions.
Yes, some teams chartered boats at the $1k fixed rate and I'm told they had fun. An old friend from the 210 class is one of them and he's back again at the next event. They had on-shore rigging help and Robby Bisi (I believe the name spelling is correct) did some on water coaching for them. They were all Corinthian teams and I see two of them at least are coming back next week. There's opportunity here. I have one pro on board with me next week, #203, as my two corinthian crew bailed, or at least one bailed and took his friend with him and left me without crew. I'll be throwing a new crew together of a full corinthian team.

There's one or two boats still available for next week if anybody is interested.

Warrior Sailing had six (6!) Melges 20s donated to their program recently. They are willing to offer the boats to charter at CRW. The boats are currently in a warehouse an hour down the road from Charleston so ideally located.

I did talk to Ian from Warrior sailing about chartering the five Melges 20s that they have for CRW. He is game. He and I will talk this week about the price and the plan. I will push to keep it as cheap as possible, including sails. I think that this could be a 100% corinthian fleet which could be a lot of fun. He does need somebody to head up the project as he's going to be busy sailing their two big boats. I wonder if we could find somebody who could be the charter manager in trade for a discount on their charter fee.

I just completed my very first weekend on my Melges 20. Huge learning experience. So tired but I had a lot of fun. I still can not believe how light the tiller feel is. The boat is so insanely balanced. It's a tricky rig but if you like being tweaky, it's a fun hobby. That and at the end of the day, it's all about sail shape and as you tune the diamonds and shrouds, the sails are instantly giving you feedback.
