Anyone know if the Melges 20 trailer load capacity is 2200 lbs or 3500 lbs?
I imagine it's 2200. I am only going off of a recent conversation with the trailer maker. I was looking at a new axle for my Melges 24 trailer and they said no more than 3500lbs if memory serves. Nice and soft. Some friends replaced their axle with one at 7200lbs and he shuddered. He told me to go lighter than 3500 if I can.

Does this mean that you bought a Melges 20? I'm not going to chase you down for ghosting me on the purchase of mine. I'm more for the health of the class.

Thank you for the feedback and information, I have heard also that you want to keep the load as soft as possible. Yep, in process of purchase and looking to get some spare parts. Not sure what you mean by ghost but if I broke etiquette on not getting back to you with my decision i apologize.

You're near the shop that makes the trailers and you could get a new axle from them at the exact same spec. That said, I bought mine from a trailer place in Texas and they were great. You measure the current trailer and you can get torsion axles just like the original ones. I have a new torsion axle, disc brakes, and new tongue all waiting to go onto the Melges 24 trailer in the Spring. The trailer is already up on blocks and waiting for the snow to melt.

hopefully both, plan to phrf for a bit to tune up and learn and then look at 1D. Would also like to maybe visit some of the events and see what I can learn.

Go race an event in Miami and you'll be up to speed in a weekend. You could pick Keiran's brain and talk to a couple sailmakers likely and they could show you the tips and tricks of the boat. My 20 just hit the road to Miami an hour ago and I'm planning to race it for either the Feb or March event.
