MERCURY MARINE - Knows how to treat it's Customers !!

YES this is Sailing related (ask HWSNBM   )

My MERCURY 60hp EFI Four Stroke Outboard is 9 months out of Warranty

I call the factory tec line about fuel pissing out me fuel-pump (looking for rebuild kit & info)

dude tell's me my motor is not that far out of warranty and they will still support there product, if defective

Well turns out it was a manufactures defect (spring through a bladder)

and MERCURY is picking up the Tab Parts/labor

How many companies (especially these days)

support there product after they are no longer required to ??

I didn't even ask them to cover it, it was Tec support at MERCURY who offered!!

Thank You MERCURY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That guy probably was fired because of you. Good Work Da-Woody!

Easier fix. Open the cover and put a Yamaha underneath it.

Lets hear the Mercury Jokes...

but that is nice. My Subaru needed a head gasket at 73,000 miles, just after the 70,000 warranty. Dealer says there is a defect, they all go usually around 60,000 miles and there really should have been a recall but they decided they wouldnt recall them. He tells me I'm lucky mine went as far as 73,000 miles. No you asshole, if I was lucky it would have went at 69,000 miles! They didnt cover shit! Not even the $20 gasket that cost $2000 in labor to replace  Regional manager, everyone all told me to get lost. NO MORE SUBARU!

A buddy had that happen on his civic tranny with 37000 miles.

got his boss to write a letter to Honda Japan in japanese.

Week or so later Honda USA calls and said send them the bill and they would cover it.

Sometimes you just need to go up the ladder..

We're up the ladder. Problem is this is all labor. Its easy to drop hardware but labor gets political.

It was especially considerate of the Mercury rep considering the financial straights Brunswick finds itself in right now. If the car business is about to go tits up the boat business will probably fall over the cliff first. They also own about 30% of Marine Max, the largest powerboat dealership in the country and also not doing extremely well right now.

I was a merc tech for years. This is normal Mercury Marine protocol. They are very supportive of their customers and dealers. In the early 2000s the Optimax program was having alot of problems. One client went thru 2 powerheads a year. Mercury worked thru their problems and replaced all of them under warr, The last few were out of the warr period. Then when Merc came out with an updated (reworked, more reliable, better ECM mapping) powerhead they gave him an entire new motor.

Very cool.

I believe the 60 EFI Fourstroke is in fact a merc product. The 115 and 225 were Yamahas for sure and there was alot of mixed product in between.

Not sure how it is now. Shared technology is good for everybody.

The guy I sail with had a new 25hp Merc that he had mounted on his inflatable that he took out crabbing. As he was stopping at his crab buoy, the outboard launched itself from the transom, and spiraled itself to the bottom. The cast mounting bracket had cracked and broken. After paddling to shore he drove to the dealer with the remaining broken bracket part and said "I think that I have a warranty issue and need the rest of what goes with this". The dealer called Mercury, determined that they had previous casting issues, and they replaced the outboard. Nice.

I have been a technician for 20 years. I love Subaru, they paid for my second boat with that defect they should have recalled. Subaru owners are great because they usually have money (a lot of "DINK's" dual income no kids), they think Subaru's last forever, and they are in LOVE with their junk. What horrible little cars Subaru makes. I think everyone should own one. The head gasket problem is just the start. Transmissions, (manual AND automatic) electronics, timing belts, . . . . . . . . .

I should write them a thank you letter. What a great company!

We bought our daughter a used 1999 honda accord with 110,000 miles when the transmission went out. took it to our local dealer to have it fixed (whom i did not buy the car from) they called later that day to say they had some bad and good news. the bad was the transmission was shot, the good being that honda would cover all charges. WOW great car company
