Michigan's reinvention continues to gain momentum with an update from the Tax Foundation that improves the state's corporate tax ranking in the State Business Tax Climate Index from 49th to 7th in the nation, Gov. Rick Snyder announced today at the Detroit Economic Club. The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C., also upgraded Michigan's overall tax rank from 18th to 12th.

Of course, don't mention Obamy and Bush saving millions of jobs there as a reason they may eventually recover.....

We all KNOW that without those jobs saved...and Obamy loans, etc. etc. - that JUST CUTTING TAXES would have been enough, right?

After all, SC has wooed business with BIG tax breaks...and has among the highest unemployment in the country!

In any case, I agree with you guys. Saving millions of jobs and the other Bush/Obama efforts may end up helping Mich. and many other places climb out quicker.

craigiri sings this little tune every morning when he awakens:

All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful:

Barack Obama made them all.

Each little flow'r that opens,

Each little bird that sings,

Obama made their glowing colors,

Obama made their tiny wings.

All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful:

Barack Obama made them all.

craigiri has eyes to see them,

And lips that he might tell

How great is Barack Obama,

Who has made all things well.

All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful:

Barack Obama made them all.

But, in other Obama praiseworthy news, Energy Conversion Devices of Auburn Hills, Michigan, declared bankruptcy in their solar energy division after selling their battery division. For awhile there, about 5 years ago, it looked like the battery folks at ECD would revolutionize battery storage capacities. Oh well, the Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Physics Fucks 'em All.

A little reading may be in order so that the Regressives can thank Bush and Obamy.

Wes Smith probably would have lost his family-owned company if it weren’t for one of President Barack Obama’s signature economic policies: the $82 billion bailout of General Motors Co. (GM) and Chrysler Group LLC.

“I could be out of business,” Smith said. “Do I think about that often? Absolutely.”

Instead, E&E Manufacturing Co., the Plymouth, Mich., auto- parts maker Smith’s father-in-law founded in 1962, is rebounding from the depths of the financial crisis. Annual sales of about $75 million are up about 50 percent from their nadir. The company has added about 70 jobs since employment bottomed at 280, down from a pre-crisis high of 480.

E&E’s resurgence is part of a broader auto-industry comeback that analysts say vindicates the government’s activism in financing and arranging the 2009 GM and Chrysler bankruptcies.

While Republicans assailed the intervention as evidence of Obama’s addiction to state-centric solutions, the industry has added almost 133,000 U.S. jobs since its 2009 low point, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

It was one of the better policy responses to the financial panic and recession,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The auto industry “is one of the more powerful sources of growth in the recovery.”

What happens if an auto maker like GM goes bankrupt?

Fire and brimstone?

So apparently you cannot see the relationship between the increased employment (revenue) and the ability that brings to lower ALL taxation??

Apparently, you think it was Obama that helped abolish the MBT... or Bush's idea to lower corporate taxes in Michigan.

Or maybe you think that E&E relies 100% on GM for growth... or 100% of their increase in employment had specifically to do with direct contracts with GM. OR apparently you are of the idea that there is NO WAY IN HELL, the lowered tax burden allowed E&E to reduced overhead.... which may have opened doors to more hired labor, created competition to expand business, or even expand in another direction other than purely a 100% GM based factory.

I'd say if two or three of them would have went belly up, you wouldn't be able to balance the budget in Mich, hence you would not be able to lower taxes.

I have not done the math, but the total fallout from a few of those going broke - would seem to be vast in MI. Add in GE and a couple other industrial stocks which would have joined them, all the suppliers and service providers to these companies, etc. and you'd have a heck of a depression!

Agree?
