...(before someone now or in the future gets butthurt about the things said in this thread and comparing DL to Dugg or MM to MV Sinker, I'm gonna specify that I'm just saying that for entertainment value since the thought it surprisingly amusing)
Dugg is crafting a turd directly from raw materials. Donald is taking a fine meal and processing it into a turd.
Different approach, same result.

Tritium had some problems in San Diego last week. Not sure what exactly happened.
That is really sad. This is what she looked like the last time I saw her just after New Year.

Didn’t Tritium lose her wing on the maiden voyage in the disastrous/doomed Artemis campaign? Juan K’s folly? The rules said “no surrogate catamarans bigger than 10m” and Artemis cleverly thought “then, fuck it, let’s throw 72’ floats on a TRI and put our new, never been sailed wing on it. Great idea, except it came down right away.

Which Orma did Alinghi flip on their maiden sail when the monohull guys (Ed Baird, Butterball, etc) chartered a tri to get ready for the DOG match?

I believe his stated goal was to sail it to the east coast of the US and start setting records but indeed, if it's in San Diego he has proven my inability to predict the future! I'm still not conceding part 2 of my statement in which I postulated that Captain DL will not set any significant sailing records on that boat (human nature). I sincerely wish the Captain, the boat and the elusive 96elur all the best.

Mighty Merloe/Defiant is now sitting in Glorietta Bay, San Diego. WHAT? Say it isn't true. Sorry, true that. Trucked it down? Worm hole? Motorsailed her?
Pics of MM in San Diego? Are you by chance confusing her with Tritium? i had correspondence with Don two weeks ago and he said that he was heading back down to the boat in middle of march and hoping to depart Mexico in mid April.

Glad to see the boat is going to limp away from Mexico before it gets too fond of the place and decides to stay there forever

I too would be quite surprised if he sailed it from Acapulco to San Diego so quickly. It's called the Baja Bash, as they say. If the Captain did sail it thataway then that's actually quite an accomplishment. I certainly wouldn't question the integrity or accuracy of a poster such as 96elur. And as I said, I have come to realize these last few years that I have absolutely no ability to predict the future.

I must elaborate after a bit of googling and then I'll try and keep my big mouth shut. To drive from Acapulco to San Diego is almost exactly 2000 miles. I'm betting that since you'd spend a significant amount of mileage tacking, the distance sailed would be at least similar..? I would love to hear how and why he would have done this. Obviously, lots of yachts get delivered by this route, though I've heard many first-hand accounts of how obnoxious it can be. Maybe someone who has done it could chime in? It seems unlikely but I didn't think a bunch of banks would be failing right now either...

i've done Acapulco to San Diego by boat, and Cabo to SD many times. It's a lot of motoring dead into the wind. Oftentimes light headwinds or a glass off by the beach, but when the High forms, you get like 25 dead on the nose. You can also get the odd southerly front in the winter.

I find it highly doubtful that MM is back in SD. I think previous poster is mistaken.

Ronnie, You are correct. I was given some bad info from a local sailor. MM is not in San Diego. My apologies to all.

Thank you for your offer to concede, however, the info given to me by a local sailor/friend was incorrect. It is a different boat that was sighted. My apologies to you and all. Your previous statements remain true until proven otherwise.

I thought it was a test platform for the amas that are now on it?

Then sold on.
Yeah it was for AC72 stuff. No idea what became of it after it won the Transpac or who owns it now.
According to this reputable website (https://www.ultimboat.com/lending-club), it was operated by some sailing/reinsertion program for a bit but again, it's like giving a Ferrari to a homeless guy, so I don't think they could make too much of it.

The intended start of the RTW record attempt was supposed to start and end in Hawaii. I wonder why the French never figured out that would be the optimum place to stage a RTW. Did he make some noise about getting the DEFIANT back to the Chesapeake and fixed up for a Bermuda record?
