A friend of mine is in both them there pictures!
He has nice blown up photographic prints (no digital photography back then) of the Before and After on his living room wall.
At least he used to; his wife may have nagged them down in the intervening years.

No kidding. The only thing dangerous about that boat is giving it to a leadmine driver. It's a big skiff.
Convert it to a bow sprit and that thing could be a Delta Ditch weapon (for a mono).

There's one in Utah with a 12 foot sprit

Speaking of big skiffs: In the late '90s there was a Santa Cruz-based big open skiff --- on the order of 40 ft as I recall --- that supposedly sunk once near the harbor and once capsized in front of us racing from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. Can't for the life of me think of it's name but would love to learn more about it. Do any of you guys recall?

Eclipse? Dee Smith? I think that was mid ot late 80's though. Oh, I just saw that up thread. Cool. I raced with guys that did a Windjammer in that boat or tried to. They then tried to convert the local Soling fleet to traps instead of hobbles. They failed.

Yeah. Threads like this are most interesting. The ULDB (and other classic boats) threads that elicit history from the dark recesses of SA’s quickly melting brain trust are quite entertaining.

Obviously it flew there by accident and has been shivering in the cold, poor thing.

For those of you with firsthand experience with it, curious how a Moore 30 compares to a more modern sport boat, like a Melges 32. Design evolution and construction techniques have advanced a lot in 30+ years.

Is it like a mid-80s Ferrari 308? Cool car for it’s day, but only a middling performer compared to many, many modern cars. Is the Moore 30 truly something special, or is it more based on nostalgic and cool stories (nothing wrong with that, btw).

Hmmm. S.A./Disp. remarkably similar at 47.08 and 46.33 but drastically different S.A. at 466.00 ft2 vs 700.00 ft2.
