The Boys is back and it’s fucking nuts.  The first 15 minutes (well the latter portion of those minutes) will get Jeffie super hot :D

Saw Maverick in 4dx. Waste of money. Your seat bounces around up and down side to side and mist and smoke squirt out of the dash in front of you. During the love scene - nothing. You would think there would be a little up and down but zilch.

Maudie on Netflix, at least in Canada. Biopic about Maud Lewis who was a folk artist in Nova Scotia. Maud is played by Sally Hawkins who is superb - it is a memorable job of acting. One of those 'little' movies that just works.

Old Man on FX. Jeff Bridges is a old CIA assassin spy who went native in Afghanistan a la Lawrence of Arabia. He’s been off the Grid for 30 years but one day he notices a strange man in town and he kick back in to Killer mode. The guy end up at his house with a gun and a scilencer and Bridges and his two mastiffs take him out. Turns out that someone in the Govt wants him dead. Lithgow is the guy sent to lead the task force. He’s got a history with Jeff having been a Station Chief and pretty Much in on his rogue behavior. The acting is phenomenal.

Satisfactory violence too!

And oh yeah up next, Tom Skerritt & Mathew M smearing god & hayzoos all over science (CONTACT).

Smallest tip of the hat to James Woods, only an asshole that could pull off Roy Cohen could fill the role.

Took my son and his posse to see it over the weekend after a stop at In and Out. The sailing scene looks like SFO Bay to me not San Diego... and in the end, that was Cruise and Connolly flying in his P-51. BTW, Connolly (the admiral's daughter) is looking pretty darn good for being in her 50s.

Didn't take long for the lampoons to come out

GREAT FUN!!! Top Gun: Maverick is a wonderful popcorn movie. Amazing shots in-flight. Good, if just a lil' bit overwrought, storyline. It has a J-125 screaming along under a Whomper. Already seen the moovie twice; I'll see it again before it leaves the IMAX screen.

See TGM in IMAX, if you can. If you can't, chose the theater with the best sound system: the soundtrack is superb.

Spoiler: An E-2C Hawkeye 2000 makes a cameo appearance and steals the show.

Maybe it’s up thread , it’s been out for a couple of years. I watched it this weekend, nice story but dire and depressing, true story with a happy ending.

Just watched Derek on Netflix and it is terrific (5.5 out of 5). It is set in an old folks home in England and has a very working class English vibe to it. It is written, directed, and stars Ricky Gervais as Derek, a not very bright but wonderfully kind and, in a way, wise worker in the home. All about kindness and love (sexual and non).
Did not last 10 minutes with this one. Knowing there was a completely irreverent offensive person in real life inside that character was a bridge too far for me. Maybe later I will try it again. I like him in general.

This is good stuff. Lithgow and bridges in an suv taking for 10 or so minutes was fucking gold. Two heavyweights with good writing and good direction, Amy Brenneman is no slouch either. They also have all the wrinkles and older person stuff in real life, no cgi post production to make them look younger that I can tell. Best international stuff for me since The Night Manager with Hugh Laurie a few years back.

I started watching For All Mankind on Apple TV and it’s the best thing not named Better Call Saul, Westworld, or Old Man. I don’t watch fantasy or pieces (Think GOT or Mad Men) usually so I wasn’t expecting much except for all the great reviews.

Plot is that we lost the race to the Moon to the soviets and have been engaged in a space race with them over decades (I’m still stuck in the sixties). It has nods to all the relevant players of the time Nixon, Von Braun, Glen etc while interlacing fictional charcaters. Good premise and good acting. I can barely remember anything from the sixties so it’s nice to see how my parents lived In that time.

Im going to have to binge Mad Men next.
