Captains Courageous, 1937

A post-modern critique of toxic masculinity.... I'M KIDDING!!! :p

It's a very silly movie, but with the MOST FUCKING AMAZING sailing scenes I've ever seen in a movie! Base on a novel by Kipling. I needed to write a film review for my university course, and there was a list of films to choose from. I've never seen all of them, but the name of this one was familiar to me, so I decided to give it a try. I loved the film, but it was pretty complicated to write a review of it. But after some time of searching for useful sites, I found this one https://supremestudy.com/essay-examples/film-review/ which provided me different film review essay examples, which were helpful for me. I managed to see the structure of such reviews and also found some inspiration. And after all, I had a great time watching and analyzing the movie, so I have no regrets about choosing it.

Saw this film last week for the first time, and I really liked it. A friend of mine recommended me this film months ago, but I just thought that I won't like it, but after all I decided to give it a try. Really worth watching.

And the last film I watched is All Quiet on the Western Front, and I can also recommend it. It's about the life young German soldier Paul who really wanted to enlist in Army. After enlisting in the German Army with his friends, he see the realities of war, and now he doesn't want to become a hero, he just want to survive.

I'm not a fan of such movies ( it's about war ), but this one was interesting for me. It's on Netflix, and also worth watching.

So, I'd say that Captains Courageous - 4/5
All Quiet on the Western Front - 5/5

Watched Casablanca for the 20th time last night. What a good movie. I always am surprised by how good the writing is and the pacing. Moves right along and the acting is excellent. Timeless movie.
The amazing thing is that it was just another Hollywood movie coming out of a studio system that generated films like cars on an assembly line. They plugged actors, who were under contract, into roles and changed them as needed. All of the major roles were to have been played by others at the planning stage. Any of these could have killed the movie. Victor Laszlo was originally to have been, wait for it ... Ronald Reagan. Hard to imagine.

However they all ended up on the film, they each made their roles iconic and individual. Could not imagine another actor as Laszlo. I think the story and working with Bogart had everyone doing their best.

Pearl of the South Pacific (1955)
Stumbled into this classic yachting, tropical isle, swashbuckler with boobies gem.
Online reviews are even worthy. Allan Dwan said "It was a terrible film to produce. They had to get aboard a yacht which was about to sink at any time"
4.5/5 for giggles.

Nice, thanks @Well-known member . I can't remember if I watched it or not - therefore, I need to watch it! I love Lee Marvin.

I don't know why but it made me remember one of the craziest and most unique movies I saw in the last 5 years, another product of the 60s:

The President's Analyst

A 1967 political satire and black comedy with science fiction elements, starring James Coburn, touching on themes that are unfortunately still contemporary. Cult status nowadays. I saw it almost by accident, not knowing anything about it. It was a big surprise, in a very positive way.

If I had to review the movie in 3 letters, they would be LSD.

If you need more convincing, the trailer is good and doesn't reveal too much.

4.666667 out of 5 Cuckoos.
