Hank on head sails?
What else for a Bermuda 1-2?

"More recently it successfully participated in offshore racing from Newport, RI to Bermuda in the Bermuda 1-2. She placed 3rd in 2003 (as INSUFFERABLE) and 2nd in 2005 (as GORE-TEX FABRICS). "

If the buy it now is any indication of the reserve, this would be a pretty good deal.
Gotta agree, price doesn't look bad.

What would a set of sails run for this (approx), assuming main, #1, #3 and a 1/2 oz spin? I would guess about the same as the purchase price of the boat, no?

Why not?

How often are you going to make a headsail change while sailing upwind on a windward leeward course? J-24's got rid of their headfoils long ago for this reason. Also, the jib remains attached to the headstay (won't blow or get washed over the side) and it can be doused and hoisted without ever having to send someone to the bow to pull it down or feed the head back into the prefeeder.

Oh yeah, what's it rate?

Slight hijack to the most recent MORC thread.

If someone was looking for a MORC boat, what are the pros / cons for the production options out there?

Any real difference in performance for Lake Erie conditions?

Sailed aboard her, as well as some minor splicing work, when she was here on SF Bay and re-commissioned "Insufferable".

Nice set of wheels, though she is aluminum- better hope no one dropped their spare change in the bilge.

Could be a good deal, or could be a significant make-over project.

Good luck!

When it was in SF we were considerably faster than the boats listed above. We all raced in the same division. We had a rating like 117 or 114 if I remember correctly. The Olson 911 rates 126. We also would correct out over them.

I competed in 2 Bermuda1-2s on her with the owner.

Last I saw her( sailed her on the Chesapeake) she was in good shape with new kevlar panneled sails prior to the last B1-2.

A bit of a challenge in ocean distance races, but a weapon on W/L and still very competitive in the right hands. For the $$ definately worth a look.

Hmmm, did you race against my boat at that time? (Then) Wolfpack?

I remember Wolfpack but I can't remember what that boat rated. The division was the SF 30 division. I think it was in a different division at that time.

Galaxy Girl (then Wolfpack) was a MORC 30-footer designed by Jim Donovan that was built at Waterrat in 1986, raced the MORC Nationals that year and rated 84 in SF subsequently. I think the last year it raced was 1991 before I got it.

I'm always eager for first hand accounts since I never was told squat by previous owner (squat that was accurate anyway).

So I'm hijacking this thread it seems. Oh well!

Back on topic: I would second the earlier remark about hoping no change was dropped below, and that it could be rock solid and it could be a ton of work. Very interesting boat, and I do hope it gets sold for that amount because it seems to me in that condition it is a good chunk of change. Although salvage cost in just the metal would be probably that amount, so hard to lose money. In theory....
