But there’s a good chance the true legal merits of the AG’s suit will never be tested in court. Both sides have strong incentives to reach a settlement. Pursuing the case through to completion could take years and there’s no guarantee that a judge will agree to grant all the relief the AG asked for. Trump seems to have an even stronger incentive to compromise, since the punishing sanctions James is seeking could amount almost to a death sentence for his business empire.

It's (almost) curious how the usual suspects instantly jump into a thread to defend the loser guy, before they even have a chance to look at the reporting, or evidence....
It's sort of a knee jerk response.
Anyone with a brain: "I have something to say about the loser guy. He..."
V3/D2/Etc.: "You're just repeating libtard fake news from commie sources!!!!!" (From their building in St. Petersburg, RUS.)
They better be careful sounds like Pooties looking for people to fight a real war-just for him.

If you lie to your auditors, and therefore have fraudulent audited financials, how are the companies going to find out? Why do you think the CFO is also being sued? Why do you think their auditors ran away and retracted their audits of the past, what, 15 years?
But the properties are there to be assessed independent of any representations by Trump. That's what municipalities, banks or insurance companies do. It is curious that no bank or insurance company is filing suit, just the AG who made it a campaign promise.

Careful: describing America as a feudal society is saying the quiet part out loud.

Just because the super rich make a sport of defrauding contractors, Uncle Sam and banks doesn’t make it legal or legit.

The quiet part
Is that the political class is trying to insert themselves between the “super rich” and the peasants

Why am I not surprised that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Banks and insurance companies are only interested in the money. They not concerned with values so much as they make the loan, sell the paper, make a lot of short term money and move on. The municipality is the one losing on the tax revenue. And who represents the municipality?

My god you people are dense.

The fools game of that cry is that
Trump is not claiming to be above the law nor taking actions placing him above the law.

The last sentence is true. Do you tell your municipality what the value of your property is for real estate tax purposes?

Everyone stop. Right here. Dog is already starting to fabricate his lie.

He is correct that outside assessors DO valuations of the property. Here's the problem.

The company also routinely spurned the assessments of outside experts. After a bank ordered an appraisal that found 40 Wall Street was worth $200 million, the Trumps promptly valued it at well over twice that amount. Overall, the lawsuit said that 11 of Mr. Trump’s annual financial statements included more than 200 false and misleading asset valuations.

Please do NOT give his false argument even a modicum of air time. He's starting his lying earlier, probably based on a Tucker / Newsmax / Fox News bullshit story. Dog, you shold stop now before you try to fabricate a wall of lies based on your original over-simplification of the issue. Bullshitter.

By over-valuing a property, you can overstate the amount of money it loses by a substantial amount. You can also UNDERSTATE the increases (because you've already over-valued it). This allows you to perennially claim losses and avoid taxation. I hope this fucker gets nailed to the WALL. He'll tie up the valuation arguments in court by bringing in his own valuation experts to claim the government is wrong etc etc. But it's bullshit and everyone knows it.

In my discussions with a few rw I just ask them why is the law there in the first place? What would happen to the capital system without the law?

Then, why should TFG be above the law? If he's above the law, then is the rest of the GOP above the law as well? Which laws are now optional?

And to the talk of politicization and timing... Who postponed/delayed/obsfucated via spurious legal processes?

So you expect the banks to stand up in court and discuss how fucked up their processes are? Are you high?

I have the feeling that Dog2 and the elk are just spouting the talking points without stopping to think what auditors and appraisers actually do in the real world.

Ideally, a bank or insurance appraiser starts from independent sources of info and work towards a value. In reality, they start with the valuation handed them by the owner and look for data points supporting it.
