Oy Vey! Jewish Lightning! It’s very rare, you’ll never see it in any Weather book!

We had a very bad case of it in Los Angeles many years ago, after the earthquake, when people realized that Homeowner’s Insurance didn’t cover Quake Damage. Several damaged building, with their gas shut off, suddenly ignited!

had the house next to me go up in flames at 2am with an electrical problem and the electricity was turned off..

Used to be a bar around there on the water, I thought it was called Mystic Seaport. Lively place with good music on weekends. What ever happened to it?

back in the day, it was the Jolly Beggar. Maybe you're thinking of the old Seaman's Inn (restaurant near the Mystic Seaport?)?

Surely the Fire Marshall picked up on that and turned them in for fraud???
Back in college, a house down the block that had their electricity shut off, burned down due to an electrical fire. They had snuck an extension cord over to the neighbor’s garage and tried to run one too many things off it.

Was just up there for a late fall cruise last week. We docked at Mystic Seaport but had our scooters and were at the site of the fire last week. Very old looking buildings. Picture shows us docked up at Mystic on their nice new floating docks. No surprise but only visiting boat there!

Yep. Jolly Beggar was the place I was thinking of.
Had an old girlfriend who spent a lot of time there.

never heard what the results of the investigation were... nothing like getting woken up in the middle of the night by firemen banging on your door telling you to evacuate... fortunately no wind that night so nothing happened to our house, just wife and I and two dogs watching from the car a block away..

they had a power pole, ie. single breaker box,

anyway, remnants got knocked down, another builder bought the property and now min-mansion is there... wife told me the owner now wants to buy our house so he can knock it down for a backyard for his kids...

That happened to us 5 years ago when we were in a rental apartment. The creek that ran along the buildings foundation had flooded from a massive rainstorm, and the 1,000 lb, propane tank behind a restaurant 4 doors away had become unmoored, floating, and was leaking gas! Firemen told us to GTF out, and we skedaddled! Next morning found my one year old WRX parked behind our building had flooded up to the seat bottoms, the day before we were leaving for Europe for 10 days. It started reluctantly and was parked in a friends garage during our trip. When we returned there was still water sloshing around in the doors, and it went off to the body shop for 8 weeks for repairs.

Were they jewish, or do you just like to add 'jewish' to your descriptions of insurance fraud?

27 years ago we had a severe wind and hail storm that took off many peoples roofs. The ones that were minimally damaged found the owners up on the roof the next morning tearing off more shingles before the insurance adjuster arrived!!

Surprised that they didn't write the vehicle off. I had a Focus RS that flooded to a lesser extent than that and the thing was condemned and replaced with a new one by insurance.
