I think that's the engine cooling water thru-hull. Sweet-looking boat, I must say. Hopefully we'll get to see one on the San Fransicko Bay before I ship out of here.

That said, the Sailing World Boat of the Year award is, I suspect, an industry insider "We scratch your back, you scratch ours" arrangement. Look for a full page Beneteau 36 ad for the next 12 months in the magazine.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. This is exactly how I was first introduced to the Archambault A35, back in '09.

1. The engine exhaust thru-hull on the First 36 is on the port side.

2. The engine water cooling inlet thru-hull, is always taken down below via the Yanmar SailDrive leg.

Can't figure out yet what this thru hull is for...

It’s the outlet for the Eberspacher heating - not very racy but a weight penalty worth paying in these waters!

Lorenzo was very adamant to have stern clear of all fittings. So, bilge drains are on side, under extended seating cover. Cover drainages are behind the swimming platform.

Why so adamant? Aesthetics, weight in the ends, some other reason I’m oblivious to???

Last Fastnet in the double handed class there were a number of sunfast 3300 that compeated and the cert for those show a lower stability index

so never say never
