still better than drag
still better than drag
Without endplate the rudders need to be large to compensate for inefficiency ….dragstill better than drag
Are there any assemblies that hit a better balance between removeability and efficiency? Does that just run into more complexity and weight faster than it's worth pursuing?Without endplate the rudders need to be large to compensate for inefficiency ….drag
Nothing is easy
I don’t know …plenty of talented , clever people thinking about ruddersAre there any assemblies that hit a better balance between removeability and efficiency? Does that just run into more complexity and weight faster than it's worth pursuing?
Still for sale… now at $150,000 I bet that they now regret not taking my offer…Todo-Loco @ $200k+ it is not for me, too small, not enough comfort, and even though the current owner put some money in it, there are a lot of other newer and better prepared for long crossings, including a SF3300 @ $175K.
Maybe @ $130K would be an option as a temporary boat.
If I was only sailing/racing downwind in the PNW then it might be a decent option but still a lot of $$$ for a 35' 1996 boat that was neglected and sailed hard.
Is that the Riptide 30?Probably not. I'm sure they're still enjoying the boat at a fraction of a new Bieker Riptide.

Nothing like enjoying a boat you started asking for $250K, 8-9 months ago and now asking for $150K and still not selling.Probably not. I'm sure they're still enjoying the boat at a fraction of a new Bieker Riptide.
LoL
Check out the new Ran. Big rudders are over rated when you have two!Yup... they updated the pic on the website. I guess they splashed a Mk3:

Riptide 30 - Bieker Boats
The Riptide 30 is the newest member in our family of Riptide designs. Key features of the Riptide concept are: An easy to handle and simple gravity driven water ballast system that allows the boat to be super light downwind and in light air yet powerful upwind and reaching with a small crew. I'm not questioning Paul's credentials with rudders, but those rudders look disproportionately small!
Cool boats!
Exactly.Check out the new Ran. Big rudders are over rated when you have two!
Depends on the average wind speed and courses. A single rudder produces more lift upwind. More VMG in light and medium air. It is a weapon at the start.Exactly.
