Without endplate the rudders need to be large to compensate for inefficiency ….drag
Nothing is easy
Are there any assemblies that hit a better balance between removeability and efficiency? Does that just run into more complexity and weight faster than it's worth pursuing?

I don’t know …plenty of talented , clever people thinking about rudders

seems that all solutions are ..special purpose , not general purpose

those tilt up rudders on the ocean speedsters are to reduce parasitic drag, not survive a collision …

the variable depth rudders or for occasional navigation in shallow water

to survive a collision …water proof bulkhead, emergency rudder seems to be the best solution

Todo-Loco @ $200k+ it is not for me, too small, not enough comfort, and even though the current owner put some money in it, there are a lot of other newer and better prepared for long crossings, including a SF3300 @ $175K.
Maybe @ $130K would be an option as a temporary boat.
If I was only sailing/racing downwind in the PNW then it might be a decent option but still a lot of $$$ for a 35' 1996 boat that was neglected and sailed hard.
Still for sale… now at $150,000 I bet that they now regret not taking my offer…

Probably not. I'm sure they're still enjoying the boat at a fraction of a new Bieker Riptide.

Is that the Riptide 30?

Yup... they updated the pic on the website. I guess they splashed a Mk3:

I'm not questioning Paul's credentials with rudders, but those rudders look disproportionately small!

Cool boats!

LoL
Nothing like enjoying a boat you started asking for $250K, 8-9 months ago and now asking for $150K and still not selling.
That 30 is looking good, I always liked his off the main vain windows/port holes.. Is she sailing already? Water ballasted?

Check out the new Ran. Big rudders are over rated when you have two!
