We also installed an electric bilge pump into the engine compartment as the heat was causing moisture build up.
Hot engine somehow generates enough water to need a bilge pump just because it is hot?
I am betting the boat has a leak

He's recognized as a Captain by the Coast Guard!
(Completely unrelated: the Coast Guard calls anyone hailing them in distress "Captain")
Interesting. I did not realize that the US Coast Guard used the term "Captain" when they issue Merchant Mariner Credentials. Thanks for the updated information.

I really just mean that when you hear ppl hailing the USCG in distress on 16 the radio operator calls the hailing mariner "cap'n". Apologies for not putting my previous post in the this is obviously a joke font.

USCG credentials aside… who ever refers to themselves as “Captain“ unless they are actively on a boat where they are employed as a skipper?

It’s just lame, and has that ”trying too hard to impress people who don’t sail” vibe.

Speaking of which, refers to himself as a “professional” sailor - is he registered as a Cat 3?

I do not routinely call myself that, but ICW tradition seems to be all the marina workers do.
It is not always a compliment either. Bounce off a few pilings and run aground getting to the fuel dock and you just might hear "Mighty fine ship handling there Captain, can we sell you some more fenders" :ROFLMAO:
