New YC In Charleston

I am appalled by the misjudgement of Charleston here. I’ve lived in San Francisco, and Boston and I’ve never lived in a kinder and more compassionate place than CHS. I’ve NEVER heard the N word in Charleston a single time but have heard it countless times on the NYC subway and the SF muni (usually being screamed)...maybe it’s time to reevaluate...

You have to be one of, if not the most, insecure, petty, and generally caustic doctors I have ever encountered. I hope you are vet, and don’t actually treat humans. Remember your primary oath - do no harm? You do not seem to realize that even though this is, mostly, an anonymous forum, your words hurt.

Please seek psychiatric help so you can understand why you act as immaturely as you do.

Actually, Sunseeker, you one of the most annoying posters on here besides me, you douche. The doctor is an ophthalmologist, and at the least, an optometrist. If she were a veterinarian, I’m sure she would be able to diagnose non verbal symptoms with ease. You are a left coast BITCH. Nothing else, ever. Never a worthwhile post for years. Enjoy your evening and I hope Eyesailor and Wess fight to the death over the wifey. Me? I just have an e-wife and we don’t fight now.

Charleston is a great place to sail. It's not an -easy- place to sail, with the current and the shoals/rocks. And there is a lot of traffic, and it's probably the most expensive place in the South. But I've gone there for a bunch of regattas at different clubs and always had a great time, except for one club that we stopped going to.

It so happened that at a regional Lightning race (part of the points series for the North Americans and Worlds) (~30 years ago) that the host club had scheduled some social event that Saturday night, and they demanded that all the boats be moved out of the parking lot. Well, there was no option but to unrig and move the boat miles away (no parking nearby). The fleet captain at the club had no warning of this and was very apologetic but could do nothing. I buttonholed one of the upper-ups (commodore or vice commodore) and told him that if I packed up my boat to leave, I was never coming back and would lobby the Lightning class to never come back. He said "Fine" so I did...

That club is no longer there, maybe karma did it's work.

I was stationed in Charleston for about 3 years in the Navy so I was prepared to hate sailing there, but I always enjoyed the sailing and my wife always liked visiting there.

Oh for god's sake. @Wess's feelings are not hurt.
He has a wonderful marriage. He knows that I know that. If we (my husband and I ) met Wess and his wife in a bar I suspect we would have a great time. We both hike, sail and have semi-responsible professions.
We happen to enjoy volleying shots across the net on sailing Anarchy. He has a good serve. i have a good return volley.
If we met on the start line, I bet we would sling some insults about who was going to get to the bar first and who would be DFL before getting down to business.

Neither of us need any psychiatric help.

Thanks for the offer though.

Receding hairline!?! That’s below the belt! How embarrassing it would be to be bald!!!

No; I have all my hair and since I ain’t cutting it or shaving till the big Navy gives our daughter back to wifely and me unbroken, I may have more - and prettier - hair than you!

But what does all of this have to do with the very nice town and people of Charleston!? Great food too!! Just hotter than Hades on a mid-summers noon. But that is a good time to have a cocktail at or with the Obstinate Daughter.

Me and Mer sailed my old ass international 14 off several boat ramps in the area the first year we were there. We bent the rig sailing off the ramp next to Wappoo Cut when we got it stuck upside down in the rocks. Eventually ended up launching next to Hobcaw. 4 knots of side-on current is fun in a double trap skiff that falls over unless you're holding it up. We ended up donating it to JIYC, some kids have enjoyed it ;)
I think it's gone now.

Build a ton of sailing courses and don't allow anyone but sailors to be on them. Also, have a "Drink dingy" always on the course.
At the Bitter End resort in the BVIs, at their afternoon regattas they used small motorboats as the turning marks and you could get a drink as you went by. Some of the most fun sailing I've ever done!

Something we agree. RIP to that place. Was sooo much fun. And Foxys before all the freaking yuppies and charter boats found/overran the VIs.
