I also think it should be on of those punishments that should be reserved for times when there is undisputed proof of guilt.
That's the only objection I've ever had to the DP - certainty.

I can't imagine anything worse than being sentenced to death when you know you are innocent.

One way I would approve of is a third verdict for capital cases - Guilty to an absolute certainty.

Reasonable doubt has been demonstrated to be insufficient for an irreversible decision.

Or in jail, there are horror stories of corrupt police hiding or planting evidence.
On the other hand there vast majority of clear links between a murder and a person that in my opinion the DP should be carried out swiftly

I've long been opposed to the death penalty as a matter of principle.

I also acknowledge I would be first in line to throw the switch if you killed someone I love.

But, that is vengeance, not justice.

Too many examples of innocent people having been executed.

By "too many", I mean it is a "non-zero number".

I think this statement is in need of an all encompassing/thorough definition of 'innocent'

That's pretty much what an LA prosecutor said when she quit - that the people who got caught up in the criminal justice system were rarely, if ever, what regular people would call "innocent".

They were sometimes not guilty of the particular crime in question but they were seldom or never "innocent".

The past ain't prologue. Let's lose Death Row ... it's become an Eighth Amendment thing in practice with guys spending a decade or MORE in what amounts to solitary confinement. Modify all the death sentences to life. Then SJWs can sleep at night.

In the future, however, the ones we have on video tape or are otherwise witnessed by others-- adios mofos. Limit the appeals to 90 days. Let's quit fucking around.

Does it really matter if I am guilty of a lesser crime, if we are go to use that argument for the death penalty?

My use of the word "innocent" seems have been received by some of you as if I am saying they are pure, and with fault. That they are angels. That is an incorrect assessment.

I mean, they didn't do what was alleged. Some folks have been convicted and sentenced to death, only to be exonerated because they didn't commit the crime for which they were convicted and sentenced.

My stance is you need to be 100% certain. Virtually impossible. Being 99.9% certain is not enough.

Yes, medically known as nitrogen narcosis.
In all honesty, if I had to be executed, it’s not a method I’d object to. Having been “narced” a few times while diving, it’s a delightful, albeit extremely dangerous situation. I’m not a fan of capital punishment, but will concede this idea is far more civil than shit like the electric chair.

There are many times when there is absolute certainty. When they find a head in your fridge for example.

Our own Clifford Olson for example - took them to his victims bodies.

Also our Willie Picton - his meat grinder had the DNA of many women in it.

Bundy and his elk - no question whatsoever and no reason whatsoever for them to continue to use up oxygen.

If I was on such a jury, one thing I would virtually ignore is eyewitness testimony. I'd guess that many if not most wrongful convictions have been based on just that and it has been proven to be extremely unreliable..

No doubt there are examples of 100% certainty.

I am of the opinion they are the exception, not the rule. - WRT convictions/sentencing.

Not to mention police who are sure they know the guilty party and 'arrange' the evidence to suit.

And - in the USA - prosecutors with their eye on political advancement who 'forget' to provide all the evidence, including the exculpatory stuff, to the defendant's lawyers.

So no, until THESE issues are resolved, I'd not support the death penalty regardless of means.

An active shooter, caught in the act, different question. No doubt about whether they did it.
