The Movie, Soylent Green was set in 2022. wherein a "Soylent Oceanographic Survey Report, 2015–2019", conclude that the oceans are dying, and can no longer produce the plankton from which Soylent Green is made. ...

As a witness, My family has Shrimped off the Atlantic Coast for 50+ years, The Oceans are dying and the food chain is collapsing. The Antarctic Ocean is acidifying at 4x times the normal rate. The de-oxification area of the Waters surrounding the Floridian peninsula are expanding, as witnessed by the death of Manatees and Fish species. I have & can see it coming.

When my time comes, I am damn sure not going to check into some Government Euthanasia Clinic so they can make me into Soylent Green chips.

I have had the experience of putting handcuffs on two murderers in my career. Both of them were situations where there was zero question about their guilt.
One murdered a deputy on dash camera purely because he served the suspects buddy with an eviction notice. I've seen the video and watched my friend die a few times, then the team I'm a part of was able to professionally take the murderer in to custody without hurting him. That man should have gotten the death penalty, but he took a plea deal and got life in prison.

The other murderer I arrested was out on parole and messed up and was going back to prison. He forced his girlfriend to invite two of her friends over, once the first one showed up he began to rape and beat both his girlfriend and her friend. The second friend showed up and got weirded out and left before she made it in the door. She called the police the next morning. We found the friend dead and the girlfriend beaten to the point we didn't recognize her. This was all in the presence of a 10 year old girl. The beating was bad enough he broke a dumbbell over the head of the woman who died. There was zero question who did it and he confessed and was proud of it. He sadly died in prison from an overdose before he could face his court case.

Those type of situations need the death penalty.
I disagree with your opinion on the death penalty.

But appreciate your input.

That's the only objection I've ever had to the DP - certainty.

I can't imagine anything worse than being sentenced to death when you know you are innocent.

One way I would approve of is a third verdict for capital cases - Guilty to an absolute certainty.

Reasonable doubt has been demonstrated to be insufficient for an irreversible decision.

For me very simple: has your judicial system ever made a wrongful conviction, yes or no? If "no", you are "god" - proceed to death penalty. If "Yes"...
..my bad for thinking a nation, that wasted the lives of >58.000 & the physical & mental health of untold more of the flower of their youth in a completely senseless military adventure thousands of kilometers from home, would baulk at the execution of a few innocently convicted...
go ahead!
(Statistically a sizeable proportion of them will be worthless individuals anyway, judging from your citizen's average...)

Some Forensic Psychiatrists will say that a stalker is a rapist who hasn’t raped yet, and a rapist is a murder who hasn’t murdered yet. Unfortunately a significant percentage are young men with anger management problems. Often with drugs on board, often spur of the moment. Generally a lifetime of regret.

There should be no doubt…if DP is used IMO.

There are some people so evil that you simply cannot take the chance that a future judge or parole board will let them go. Look up Kenneth Allen McDuff.

I try to keep my political opinions in PA, where they belong, but understand that some can't bring themselves to do it for some reason.

Anyway, since I'm here, the death penalty is wrong because unnecessary killing is wrong.

Your argument boils down to: someone might someday make it necessary to kill this person.

That's not "it's necessary." That's "I think one day it might be." Not good enough, even if we could live the dream some here dream of "unquestioned" guilt.

Assisted suicide is a whole nuther topic but I support this guy's work.

Just had Thanksgiving with a friend who was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Our conversation was a lot more one-way than last year. Next year will be worse. She's in her early 60's and healthy.

So now we all know how her daughter's next couple of decades are going to turn out. Her son too, but the burden is already falling where it will. I don't know if they want a way out. I would.

I can agree with this. I really struggle with state sponsored murder. Thanks for your thoughts/
