I have never had a strong opinion either way regarding the death penalty. Missus BB is against it only because the endless years of appeals continue to torture the families and give them no closure for their loss.

See, that's the thing.The ten cs are simply a convention followed by believers and possibly others who think it's a good way to go thru life... so it works for them ... maybe. However, there are billions of others who disagree, and millions of believers and others here in our own land that say they follow them but routinely do not. Your conceit is thinking you have it right in the face of billions of blatant examples indicating otherwise. Think about it.
Another way to consider the big 10: C1 is a self-serving irrational aspiration written and repeated by hominids. C2 thru 5 ... pffft. C6 happens hundreds of times a day. C7 thru C10 are actually laughable considering what we know about ourselves and our neighbors.
