Fair enough….

I saw a report that a Ukrainian Woman player disagreed with the blanket ban and thought those that expressed disagreement with Putin should be allowed.

Djokovic's the GOAT and an idiot.  Many of the excluded Russian players are millionaires who can exert political pressure there, so excluding them is politically and symbolically reasonable.

So where is the line on what abuses your country commits that every citizen needs to be held responsible for?

Only full out war?

Genocide? Internal or external?

Killing gays? Making being gay illegal?

Refusing to accept refugees?

Discrimination on the basis of race?

Selling fast food to fat people?

Seems that it is a very subjective topic. One where people think their own views on what is right and wrong trump the freedom of others.

Good question.  It's certainly subjective and will no doubt stay that way.

Another question would be who gets penalised?

Only members of the ruling class?

Only the wealthy?

Only successful sports people?

Why has the US not kicked out every Russian in America?

It seems to be more about trying to show how just and concerned people are to an adoring public than anything else. Actions that get you 'likes' are good. Actions that don't are bad.

To hell with the morals, just try and look good to others.

“Who can exert political pressure” LOL got to be one of the dumbest comments on SA.

They can do nothing…

given the risk of arrest on return to Russia, in disagreeing with the war they need to chose their words correctly.

I agree with the Ukrainian player view.

LOL.  If I'd recalled you are the anti-vax conspiracy theorist from your 'OMG Heart Attacks' thread I wouldn't have replied.  I'm thinking you must have exhausted your creative thinking that way, but here we are.

As an example of what political influence in Russia --- and elsewhere --- a world-famous Russian millionaire tennis play could exert, renouncing their Russian citizenship would be much stronger sign of disapproval that a statement against war.  It'd be all over world press for days and be a poke in Putin's eye.

So how do you think it works to renounce your citizenship if you don’t have a second citizenship to fall back on?

They will have family, friends and a life back in Russia, even if the reside in a low tax location. They would have to get a visa to go back there, which would most likely be declined.

Do you think Putin will care what the world press says? He hasn’t so far and of course domestic press will not cover it or treat the player as a traitor to the country.

Your posts are getting dumber.

Wimbledon's own rules state they won't discriminate on the basis of nationality.

Wimbledon have announced that there will be no vax mandate, so Novax can play.

The next Aus Open will also have no mandate and Aus won't have the border rules either. However Novax will i guess need to have the immigration minister give him an exemption from the mandatory 3(???) year exclusion rule. Should be no problem but a few here will throw a hissy fit about it.

JFC Gizzy,

Obviously you weren’t around when change was bought about in South Africa helped in no small part by the International Sporting boycotts, team Exclusions  and Protests.

Try asking ya mum.

In summary, Russians and Novax are cunts and should be excluded.

You are also a cunt, does that mean all Aussies as cunts?

As for SA, your comment shows how disappointed your mum must be with how shallow you turned out.

You really are a clueless fuckwit.

In South Africa, the white sportsman were part of the problem. They were benefitting from apartheid as part of the white minority. They and their sports were a fair target and a significant influence on the voters in SA.

Allowing individual Russian sportspersons who are not supportive of the war, sends a stronger message than banning them.

If Medvedev plays at Wimbledon because organisers are satisfied that he is "anti war", then that sends a message to his supporters.

On that we agree.

You seem to have a very limited and one dimensional understanding of the effects and reach of the sporting boycotts, protests, exclusions etc. which went well beyond who was selected in the first 11. Very understandable in your case.

From  https://www.facinghistory.org/confronting-apartheid/chapter-3/introduction

PLEASE NOTE..

Domestic protests and an international anti-apartheid movement eventually pushed the regime to begin negotiations with the head of the African National Congress (ANC), Nelson Mandela, whose imprisonment throughout this period became a symbol for human-rights defenders worldwide.

I thought you lot had him dying a horrible death from Covid-19 because he was unvaccinated? Seems to be as fit as ever.
He was cagey about his vaccination status for a long while and now seem to be saying that he won't be getting vaccinated rather than he's unvaccinated. The uneducated fool hosted a super-spreader event during early lockdowns, so while he seems fine there is no telling what harm he's done.
