looking at the IRC Super O results from ACC Bank Cork Week out of the three new 65 footers, Numbers (JV design) was much the quickest. Moneypenny (Reichel Pugh) was way off the pace and never threatened Numbers. Alegre was stunning but seemed to have need more speed although it is the newest. Numbers dominance was enough to win the class from the TP52 RAN.

Interesting decision for others looking into this size of IRC race boat.

one "award" Numbers certainly won was most ostentatious presence..... Meteor was gross eonough as 'mothership', she didnt need to light up her spreaders to demonstrate she was the largest boat there, nor did they 'need' to take over the foff big buildong near cronins as a base.. kind of spoils the ideals of Cork Week being for the amateurs

I heard Numbers had 11 Alinghi crew onboard for the week. Apparently Alegre isn't that racey and has a more cruisy interior.

Rambler left this evening on her way to the South of France. Moneypenny is still sitting in the river on a mooring and Numbers & Meteor are still there.

I heard all sorts of mad figures being thrown about for crew wages during the week.

Hmmm 2 Mill.......really not a bad price but I would estimate it would cost $500k a year in crew, sail repairs, lodging, food + drink, dockage, etc etc...
That would get you two maybe 3 events, if there local. To compete in even a moderate number of events your looking at well over 1 mill a year.

Suspect it has a lot to do with time on the water - both Moneypenny and Alegre have much less of that than Numbers (I think?). May be closer in 6 months time once worked up. Think Numbers also much more crewed up (mostly Alinghi?)

The real question about Blue Yankee is could it be modified/ overhauled to be competitive against the current crop of IRC boats? If so, would a sprit & new spin's work out? New keel?

Thoughts? Money's not an object.....

Obviously not... if it could be, why sell. Money is not object for the owner and if that is the case, might as well comission a new boat.

I also like how the yacht world listing refers to the boat as an "IRC Weapon..."

Yeah, it looks like the Numbers was faster than Moneypenny this time round. So even though MP is constrained by the STP 65 rule, and brand new to boot, I guess we can chalk one up for the Numbers. But weren't they in a tie with the R/P designed RAN (ex Patches2) for race week honors? So maybe we shouldn't bury R/P just yet. Could be an interesting summer.
