".... The beaches are narrow, and not very wide...." Wow.... OK he's not a brain surgeon thankfully!.
If some well heeled entrepreneur were to collect the stuff off the beaches, dry it, rinse it in cow manure based water and then dissolve it sans the salt, it could be a HUGE agricultural fertilizer opportunity.
The stuff is hugely full of beneficial nutrients, it just needs to be desalinated, and pulverized.

Carib pax just pile seaweed up and let it be rained on, much like a basic composting process. No need to use up all that water and energy

Yeah. I was referring more to the "flesh eating scourge" part, and that this seemed to be "just one more thing about Florida" part...

I got the impression that the bacteria were clinging to the plastic bits that are mixed in to the sargassum.

V.vulnificus is nothing new. It’s the bacteria that gives you problems when you eat bad oysters. It is less friendly in an open wound, but in particular to those with compromised immune systems

You are new here. Snags is not.

Actually, this sock puppet is relatively new (because i keep leaving and returning, only to have lost my previous credentials, or migrated to new email addresses), but I've been kicking around since 2007-ish. One of my threads just won't seem to die, so...
