I was working on an historical piece for Don Ayres Jr and went down the best rabbit hole search for Dogpatch, a Doug Peterson 2 tonner in the late 70's. Won all kinds of races...."76 Ahmanson series, '79 SoCal Lipton Cup, Long Beach Race Week Balboa 66 series and 14 Mile Bank Race. She was sold and changed names to, "Shoot the Moon" and then sold again and was called Dynamite. Lost track there....other than up in WA somewhere with an owner named Justin, I think. Went on another search for Bright Eyes and found a 1961 Sports Illustrated cover story on the 1961 Miami to Jamaica race aboard Escapade. They put a photographer on board and got some great shots. Escapade won that race with Don Ayres, Peter Bowker, Jack Suiter, Ray George and Jack Frazier. https://vault.si.com/vault/1961/06/05/41928
Huge shoutout to "sledracr" for helping me find out where Dogpatch went after Newport. You don't know me, but I stalked your posts to get info, LOL And you had some great info . All these stories brought a lot of happiness to Don Ayres who is in his 90's and still very active.
