A kites on poles are the perfect setup for this race. Looks like the high is forecast to go back where it belongs, hope you have a great ride over!

Oh, the high is looking very "interesting" for next week. Wow! GFS for next Wednesday the 6th. The ECMWF isn't much different.

Bob, any guesses why they have the Hanse 34 in our DH division, even though they rate slower than both you and Bene 10R?

I pointed it out to Randy (crew on the Hanse) when the divisions first came out, but I don't know if they inquired further.

D1 currently has eight boats and D2 only has six, so there's that. But I hope they don't reshuffle them at this late date.

Fun with ratings... After our weigh-in YRA updated the ratings page and our rating went down (faster) 9 secs/mile. Today I received a certificate that is 7 secs/mile higher than what is shown on the website. Color me happy, because we just won 4 hours, but it is curious that the ratings page updated recently, but doesn't match our certificate. Presumably, the page is going to update again soon?

Or some other measurement based rule, otherwise you’re creating a culture where mediocre sailors get rewarded and better sailors get punished in the long term.

Looks like the potential for a relatively fast race, despite the greater distance needed.

Sounds good to me! I haven't figured out the difference between ORC and ORR, but we have ORC races up here.

I can understand you reasoning, but I don't think historical Pac Cup results support your theory.

The most frequent DH winners are Ex27's and M24's, both boats with strong enough fleets that if anything, they're penalized by PHRF.

I don't think forcing everyone to a measured rule makes sense for the Pac Cup, there's too many small boats and family programs on tight budgets.

If that's not your scene, there's always the Transpac.

Tight Budget and Hawaii races, don’t belong together. Getting an orr measurement is a rounding error on the typical pac cup budget. It’s not cheap racing a Moore to Hawaii. After you invest all this time and money, I would rather race under a measurement rule than phrf. That’s just my opinion.

Up until this year anything faster than an Antrim 27 needed an orr rating. Then someone built a carbon Antrim 27 and they allowed all the double handed boats to use phrf. Interesting that one of the crew on the Antrim is also on the phrf board. No conflict there

All doublehanded boats have been PHRF for quite some time, maybe always. At least back to 2014 when we raced our J/120. Condor and War Pony raced that year too and we were all PHRF.

You are correct that for fully crewed boats that anything faster than about 50 PHRF (J/120ish) races ORR. That hasn't changed though. We are PHRF, the fully crewed J/111 is ORR and there are slower boats than them in the Thursday start.

I don't see that anything has changed rating wise this year versus previous years.

Also, the carbon Antrim 27 rates just 5 secs/mile slower than us. It hardly looks like a cush downwind rating.
