From what I have read Pelosi was very cool and knowing the ashole was there to kill his wife - to keep him distracted and not noticing the 911 call was true calm under pressure - doesn't take many blows to the head with a hammer to kill you. Not sure why the cop didn't shoot the moment he didn't put the hammer down and turned to strike Pelosi.

The actual attack, yes - it's the time Mr. Pelosi stalled him - from the time that he dialed 911 until the police arrived and entered the home was 8 minutes. Under the circumstances that would seem like an eternity.
