Yes, congratulations to all. I bet Kim won't sleep tonight but spend the whole night looking at that amazing boat. .....perhaps with a choice single malt.
I had a good night's sleep. But I did spend about 30 minutes sitting in her cockpit after sunset thinking of my Dad, wish he could have been there for that first sail, but I guess he was there. Thanks for everything Frank, you were a great Dad.
Most appropriate. Great looking boat and a fine tribute.

Yeah, I like to think that Francis and Spike were both sitting there together watching our every maneuver and smiling because Kim and I were having the time of our lives..

Great time you guys, and great pics Boomer. Sounds like the boat meets or exceeds all expectations. I'll be looking forward to seeing Frankie sailing up to the shack, or maybe I'll just see her out sailing before that !

Thorvald:

One of my concerns was how the boat would be in light air. We have considerable wetted surface with 63' LOA. But it turns out I worried for nothing. The boat scooted along nicely in the light stuff.

The performance of Bob's design simply blew me away, to say she exceeded my expectations is a massive understatement.

(I guess he does know how to design a boat. His thinking about boat design for the last 55 years seems to bear fruit.)

I think this photo sums up the day nicely.

Notice that I wore a tie for the occasion.

Of course it's silly. It's a West Coast thing. You wouldn't understand. We think ties are silly. We don't take them seriously. Ties are for fun.

Hard:

I was steering from the lee so I could see the luff of the jib. The boat is so narrow that from the weather side you can't see much of the jib. Maybe when we get a hiking stick on it I can sit outboard more. I prefer to sit to weather if I can see the jib luff. I needed to see the jib because I had no convenient benchmarks for how high I could point the boat. It just seemed to want to go up and up. I'd look up at the Windex and think Wow! In time hopefully I will get a feel for what the boat is doing but yesterday everything was very new. It was very helpful to have the racing fleet out there so we could get an idea of how we were really doing.

When those pics were taken we were moving through the lee of that C&C. Then we were hit by a wake from a passing ship. The C&C started bucking and stopped dead while we hardly moved and shot right through her lee. We did not slow down that I could notice.
