There's a reason Angelinos travel at night. But on the big weekends even that doesn't help. We landed at LAX once and tried to drive to the Valley at 2am. The San DIego Fwy was jammed through W. LA. Amazing.

I left LA in 1977. The place has changed a bit since then!

Highway 101 was ever so much nicer than I-5 and then when we got to Oxnard we bailed over to PCH (Pacific Coast Highway US-1) and finished off the trip to my brother's house near Santa Monica. (I am done with I-5 south of Sacramento.)

Rudder tomorrow. Hope we can get out of LA after the pickup before the rush hour hits.

Then northbound to visit BV.

Sounds a lot like some of my pre- and post-holiday trips between Oakland and LA; glad i'm not doing that anymore! I-5 through the middle of nowhere (it's just past lovely cosmopolitan Kettleman City) with about a million other cars isn't my idea of a pleasure trip...US101 is a much more pleasant drive, so what if it is a little longer.

Oh that is funny because Steve's last name is Lee!

Lynn and Steve were very nice and they have a very impressive operation going.

Unfortunately our Sprinter Van is acting up so we are sitting in the customer area of the Anaheim Mercedes dealer waiting to see if they can fix it and get us back on the road. We might be back at brother's Scott's house tonight.

But we do have the rudder! The mechanics here were looking at it and they said: "Must be a big boat!"

It does take up pretty much the whole back of the van!

That part happens later, whilst sailing north in the Georgia Straights in a SE 30+k against the tide. By the lee. From Vancouver to Schooner Cove, because by the time you get close to Nanaimo, there will be a negative 2m tide, and because of your depth, Sylva Bay does have Shipwreck Rock. At minus the tide mentioned above.. And you draw how much?

And of course thunderstorms. Of course there is Navy passage..... Or Gabriola.... And there is the obligatory motorboat without power and adrift in Dodds Narrows.

This is Kim's younger brother (much, much younger in fact). Kim stopped by again last night because of troubles with his van. While visiting, Kim mentioned this forum and logged me in so that I could review it. I spent a good portion of last night and this morning skimming through 67 pages of postings. I am feeling a bit whoozy even though I skipped through most of the hijackings. In fact, the only hijacking I paid any attention to was the one about Le Tour. Regardless, I felt compelled to log out (so that Kim could resume posting) and then register myself so that I can follow this blog to the bitter end. Someone once told me that the only thing better than owning a boat is to have a friend who owns a boat. As it turns out, I am temporarily (?) boatless. However, I have a brother that is building a boat. After reading this exhaustive (and exhausting) blog, I feel compelled to come up for the launch party. Kim, just let me know when and we will be there.

 

In the meantime, where are the pictures of the boat being rolled over? The world wants to know and the supsense is killing me. Kim looked pretty calm when he was here so I assume all went well or the roll has not taken place.

I just found out the roll is to take place tomorrow.

I guess I will skip watching the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Bowl Game on TV and go watch the roll instead.

(I am not much of a football fan anyway.)

First we had to remove much of the forms and non boat structure. (Yes, that is me actually helping Fred take down some of the extra stuff we did not want in the way of the roll.)

Well after all of that worry it went smooth as can be. We have a great crew!

I called Bob and he said he was surprised the crew let me watch. (Hell, they let me help!)

I told Bob that I loved the hull shape even more now that she is right side up; he replied: "That good Kim, because we are not changing it."

Now the crew will install the cradles under the hull to give it plenty of support and then the interior fairing and sheathing starts.

Bob visits next Monday.
