Ok folks, I am pissed. It seems like our only choices for President will all be senior citizens with uncertain health histories. The orange clown is overweight, Biden is sleepy, Liz is cranky, Mike has unknown problems and Bernie had a heart attack. I am no spring chicken but I admit that this is a job for a younger person. I am willing to stand aside and have someone younger step up.

What are your thoughts?

I think we will see younger running mates. Biden/Harris or Abrams. or Sanders/Gabbard.

I could see Pence getting the heave-ho if the virus gets out of hand (and people hear about it), with Nikki Haley taking his place on the ticket.

This country is too backwards and would have not voted for a gay guy, but I really thought he was a good candidate.  Certainly better than others that are left.

Seemed like younger voters preferred Sanders over millennial mayor Pete. It is not a bunch of retired folks at Sanders rallies.

Pete and Amy took one for the team and Liz is just there to slow the old socialist vote count down. Anyone but Burnie is the new mantra for the DNC. Any other old white guy is just fine. Bernie's gonna get fucked again by the Dem insiders again!

The DNC know they have an uphill battle with anyone against Trump at this point so why not let sleepy Joe take the hit and save the others for 2024 when Trumps gone.

Trump appointing Pence was just having a scapegoat

Pete and Amy saying they will endorse Biden is them thinking he is the most electable candidate and will be best placed to get rid of Trump.

Yes I'm sure Bernie is not loved by the DNC mainstream. But I don't think its a vast conspiracy - it's more just real everyday politics with people jockeying for position to be the candidate. Bernie has a lot of youthful supporters; but they vote in much lower percentages in actual elections. And a lot of Americans are scared by the word "socialist". So I think Bernie is not as good a candidate as Biden.

Is it that nobody believes the polls? Or is it that nobody is looking at them?

There is nothing that would point to Trump having any kind of lead at all, instead the polls point to Sanders having the advantage. Granted, this is early and so the polls will move around from here, but still there is nothing concrete that would point to Trump having an advantage. Also, keep in mind that the effects of the coronavirus are not full reflected in these polls. Hopefully loss of life will be minimal, but regardless of that it is going to hit the economy and has already knocked the stock market off 20%. That is another negative for Trump to have to deal with. And finally, the GOTV advantage goes to the dems who have a perfect villain in Trump to run against.

Perhaps I am not cynical enough on this, but I suspect that it is simply that Biden is moderate and they were both moderate. Of the remaining candidates, Biden was closest to them ideologically. And for that same reason, Biden would be more likely to appoint them to a cabinet position or give them the VP slot (so I am still a little cynical). I don't think it has anything to do with Biden being more electable. Sanders winning in November probably scares establishment dems more than Sanders losing in November. If he is president, he determines where the party goes. If he loses, then Chuck and Nancy do.

My money is on Pence getting his doctor to say he has coronavirus, and he will be confined at home for the duration. That puts the ball back in Trump's yard, and he will have to do all the meet and greets, which leaves him exposed to getting the virus himself.

As I recall, 5-38 did a great job of demonstrating that Hillary was a shoe in.  Too many polls rely on calls to published (land line) phones and a lot of folks screen calls so the question of what make a true representative sample looms large.

Sad to see Mayor Pete and Amy drop but they were never going to get the nod in any case. I hope Pete gets a good position in the next administration.   IMHO, better BIden than Bernie but I saw a Biden interview on the morning shows yesterday and he could not string two coherent thoughts together.  I get that he was probably exhausted but he's showing his age.  If he gets the nod, we need a good second on the ticket.

I like Warren, went to see her Saturday night - when she announced that Biden was carrying SC the crowd started to boo and she stopped them stating that defeating Trump was more important than partisan politics. If Bernie or Biden win they will be 1 term guys if for no other reason than age. Liz should be able to make a stronger showing in 4 years (barring some Machiavellian gymnastics that put her in the running).   Warren is Bernie without the baggage and more complete plans stressing being progressive more than Demcratic Socialist which the Trumpers will equate with being Communist.

note: I supported Bernie last time, he and Biden are too old but then nobody listens to me. Liz was very impressive in person and patiently waited for any and all to take selfies afterwards. Probably America just isn't ready for a smart woman to lead us. Our loss.

Yes, the polls were definitely off last time. A good deal of that was folks not willing to say publicly that they would vote for Trump. I don't see that happening now as he runs for reelection, particularly against Sanders. If anything, I think the bias would be towards inflating Trumps numbers against Sanders at this point.

edited to add:

I too am disappointed to see Pete and Amy out, although I get it. The way it stands today, they don't have a realistic path forward. I would have been happy to vote for either of them. I do expect we will see more of them in the coming years.

She's also 7 years younger than Biden, 8 years younger than Sanders. No known health problems and women live longer and keep their marbles longer anyway.

Not that any of the above are the issue are they?

Policy wonks always struggle. Gore and to some degree Dole suffered for the same reason.
