Places to Haulout Newfoundland or Greenland

In a few weeks we will depart On an extended cruise that will end in either St. John’s Newfoundland or Nuuk, Greenland.  We expect to arrive in those environs quite late in the year, late October at the earliest.

im hoping to find a few people with local knowledge of either location (or other locations nearby) who might be able to point out locations/contacts where we might haul the boat and lay her up for the winter.

the boat is steel, LOA 46’, displacement approx 35,000lb.

Anyone know of good marinas or who we should contact?

It’s a small world, so if it were me I’d probably try giving Bob Shepton a ring and ask his advice.  He’s been around (to say the very least) and seems a very fine fellow - and it would probably be an interesting conversation!  (I seem to recall some story about him storing his boat in Greenland [Nuuk?] for a winter and it caught on fire or something (lost) - i.e., he seems to have some spent a good deal of time there and knows the place.)

Greenland is possible, but is expensive.  I would talk to the Nuuk shipyard perhaps as a starting point. People have also left boats in Sisimiut.

Newfoundland is rather easy and cheaper - several good options depending on what you are looking for. The Royal Newfoundland  and Lewisporte are probably the two most common options but there are also others.
