So Ian gets escorted off Lake Union by police for Speeding, that's good stuff!

"I was pulled over and then escorted off lake union by the police for apparently going to fast on the moth. WTF? The thought of running crossed my mind until I noticed a very large gun mounted on the bow of the police boat and decided it wasnt worth it to see how far I would have to go before they would open up on me. I thought the speed limit was just for keeping a low wake for all the house boats but I guess its also there to regulate how much fun your allowed to have." Ian

Guess we'll be seeing more of this in the future...

Bet you a dollar that the 7 knot speed limit is not enforced against the crews that are out in the morning.

Crew is such a silly sport isnt it? All that work just to end up on shore with no party

Great post!

When I had my D 20 trimaran, I used to blast past the harbor master, who parked right next to the " 6 mph no wake zone" buoy as lit up as possible. The idea was to take the ticket and make t-shirts out of it. He would only watch, smile and wave... I remember power reaching past him with nobody else around doing 12 knots easy, ten feet off of his bow....

My advise, is to take the ticket and have shirts made with it!

I like the shirt idea. Next time ask them "Don't you have anything better to do?" and see what happens. Also, if you try and run you might make it on to Tru TV...

I never thought to make shirts - I had ours from the US Tornado Trails (Cal YC) on the wall for several years....

FWIW - on the way home the first thing my wife told me about was the guy on the Moth shreading Lake Union - she said people were cheering....

Wow - a moth fleet could cause major heart failure for the cops. Then submit it to all the local news and cop shows show just how silly and a waste of tax payer money that fun cop really is.

Probably the same fucker who wrecked the goose bump racing last winter by not allowing the committee boat to anchor. Ian next time, let the prick know your tax dollars pay his fucking wages and he should be doing something useful for that privilege. Have a good time in Alaska mate, be careful at the Bush Co, you can spend a bit of cash quickly there.

Is that some yachting/mountain biking competition?

'Cause if it's not, at least somebody thinks it should be.

Yeah cheers Mike, it was also the same group off cops who put me in cuffs a year ago for "speeding" in a small inflatable RHIB with a 2.5 horse on the back(max speed of 5 knots). I was technically pulled over twice because I foiled away from them after the first pull over to head back to the ramp and that really drove them nuts. I tried to explain that it was really the only logical way to sail the boat, I guess it's the puget sound for the mothies now. I do like the shirt idea for sure. So yeah for a heads up nobody enjoy themselves too much or the harbor police will come out and end it.

Seriously we used to hold a race up a river near here. It was pretty popular, fleets up to 50 yachts and Multihulls (Including the likes of 'Bobsled' a Steinman 57' sled)

Because the race transited a major port, the port authority and the RC capped the max speed at 10 knots. That right, a yacht race in which you were not allowed to exceed 10 knots. Kind of like the walking events at the Olympics. Walk as fast as you can without running!

And I know of at least one sailing dingy (contender) that was booked for speeding in the Harbor by the same authority.

The fun police have a branch office here.

WOW I thought they were bad around here. I was pissed because a cop told me I could not sail my etchells through the mooring field. He was super confused when I told him that I did not have a motor.

you can use your inflatable to tow the moth to the macgregor lanes in the middle of the lake, just don't anchor the dinghy while your sailing.
