I had some so called credit coming from cancelling two flights this last summer.

I needed to make some flight plans for my wife and I to fly to Mexico. Plan was to use one of the credits for my flight. I needed two windows open on my computer, one looking for her flight, one looking for my flight to use the credit.

Chose the exact same flight for both of us, but using the credit the flight was $75 more, and I could only use the credit on the absolute most expensive flight offered. Which with the credit was still more then just buying a ticket.

Maybe expedia is the most evil in the world.

I've reached the point that if I can't drive there, it's not worth going.
Fortunate in that I have no personal or professional reasons to be flying.
Going someplace fun is ruined by the nightmare that is modern air travel.
Granted I'm doing the ferry shuffle right now as the boat we had reservations for lost steerage. So, 2 ferry boat rides and a toll bridge and a 3 hour trip to Port Angles turned into a 7 hour trip.
But sitting in a comfortable rig, towing a RV that resembles a small house (SWMBO) and missed all the traffic as we wait to catch the next Edmonds boat.

Much, much better than shuffling along and getting my oversized caboose into a seat made for someone half my size!

Speaking of road trips Mr. Miller, any plans out this way in your future??

I am being told to use Egencia (use to be Expedia's corporate sister) and the only thing I use it for is for is car rentals as the full tilt bogie insurance is included - which sometime pisses of the counter person when they try to make the sale.

For hotels and flights I go directly to the vendors site. Every time time I submit expenses I am aptly reminded to use Egencia, and every time I tell them I am getting a better deal by not using it. They play their games, I play mime... 425 to the wake up!

I generally go straight to the airline. Every so often I find a better price on Orbits, or some other site, but the airlines will usually match that, and they're much easier to deal with than the drones in Pakistan, or Philippines, or Romania..... Where ever the call center is that week.

yes, plus when things go sideways usually they will take care of people who booked directly over those that used a travel site. At least in my experience

Yeah, we had an...annoying...time with Travelocity a month or two ago.

In brief, they were incompetent AF, American Airlines gave zero shits about me because I didn't book through them unless I paid them $50 to help them, and I spent hours and hours changing a flight twice because of Covid.

In the end Travelocity was so incompetent and slow changing the flight it would have been better to just pay American the $50, because by the time Travelocity go around to buying the ticket they quoted me the price had gone up.

Everyone associated with travel seems to have become infected with the same evil protomolecule that turns human beings into blood sucking parasites. Airlines, car rental companies, expedia etc. Last week a penske employee, while staring at my reservation for a van said, "We aint got no vaaaaans...Thems is all used up by fedex and amazon. What we got for yall is that 24 foot box truck over there."
Me, "But I can't use a 24 foot box truck. I rented a van cuz I need a van."
Him, "I can see you rented a van but we aint got vans here..."
He calls his own company, gets put on old for 10 minutes then gets routed to the call center in Pakistan. They tell him I rented a van. His response, "But we aint got no vans."

FWIW we’re traveling now, booked through Expedia. We don’t usually do that, and go direct to the airline as is generally advisable. However, it was a weird thing where we were flying in to one city and home from another and it just got too complicated with one airline. On the way out from LaGuardia (again, generally avoid NYC but it was what worked) boarded the plane but then a glitch prevented departure and we all deplaned. One call to Delta and in 10 minutes we were re-routed through a different city and connection. Flight departed 45 minutes later. Wound up at the final destination about an hour after originally scheduled, and all our bags, including the gate checked one for the first aborted departure (all flights full to the brim) made it to the baggage carousel faster than we could walk there. Couldn’t have been happier, and note of thanks was sent to Delta. It does work, sometimes.

NEVER EVER FLY AA unless they are the ONLY option.
Rude, inflexible, nasty, expensive...... Did I mention rude?...
I'd rather fly Aero Maybego (Aeromexico) than AA.

You may have already noticed this yourself, but if not ...

Last few aircraft bookings I saw the price and it looked good but had to make phone calls to the people on the other end first. Went back not long after and the price had increased 50% even though the same number of seats were still available.

The 'algorithm' assumed that if you came back and looked at the same fight a second time it meant you had decided to buy.

Haven't been flying for a couple of years, but next time I will do all the arrangements first and book first visit to the website.

Yep, pays to have chrome and Edge when doing that.
Sure, the way to protect yourself from financial exploitation is to use google and microsoft products?

I dont think I will be doing that.
