Two Andrews/Dencho 70's were built as cruisers.  "Stella Maris" was started shortly after "Alchemy" and was berthed at Southwestern YC for many years before being sold  and cruising south and west.  Hull 7, "Elysium", (widened hull, Bob Perry interior) was also west coast based and became "Elainium" before being sold to KL, Malaysia based owners.  After a refit in Phuket, the now "Bella Uno" was based in Subic, PHI the last couple of years and raced in the cruising division of Boracay Cup with good success.

Yes, the Estonian boats were a different design for different purposes.  Last heard that "Trader" was in Hawaii after a refit in Asia and sail back to the states.

Pyewacket should be repaired just fine.  That's one of the good things about composites - they can be repaired well without adding noticeable weight.  Let's hope Roy P. recovers quickly and fully.
trader was on the market in asia for cheap, was hoping you'd by her for me.  :D

hope all is well buddy.

1. Pye was approaching the weather mark on port tack, slightly overstood.

2. GI was approaching the mark close hauled on starboard tack.

3. Pye was clear ahead of GI by 1/2 bl or less.

4. Pye tacked at the mark and immediately began to bear away to round the mark.

4. By the time Pye was on a close-hauled course, GI was overlapped inside her.

5. GI immediately altered course to avoid hitting Pye, but was unable to avoid hitting her.

That's what I thought from this photo.

Let's just say there was a reason why Renegade was called "Rent-a-Grenade"
No disrespect with Alan as he was the designer only, not the builder, but those boats were destined end up in sled infamy. I saw Trader in Shelter Is. one day and made me want to go.....hmmm. Then Rent-a-Grenade showed up in Vancouver. Apparently it had been hit by lightning damaged the rig and blew tiny holes out the waterline. The fix was to touch it up with car bondo and silly putty. On launching it slowly start ingress water (what a surprise) then relaunched and fixed properly(?). I'm not sure the rig was (properly) as one of the pro mast guy also said....hmmm. It was an on going gong show but I won't bore the rest of the class with it.

I wonder where they are now?

That's what I thought, so if Pyewacket bore away inside the circle then she gets the bills.

The 8 year olds at our club struggle with the port tack approach rules, but most of the 10 year olds have got it.  One of the reasons that most of the 8 year olds sail cheap boats.

Hey Alan (or anyone), which one of those boats is this one for sale in phuket?  https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1996/andrews-custom-72-3480764/

Who would put that atrocious deck house on such a beautiful fast boat. I thought Merlin was the worst refit to a classic sled that I'd ever seen. This takes the cake.

From the ad:

She was conceived as a very fast racing yacht, but with a cruising interior for comfort. Designed by Alan Andrews, of “Glory”, “Alchemy” and “Pywackett” racing fame and is offered as an unfinished project. Malaysian ( Langkawi flagged )

So at least you know  it's none of them.

That sure looks like Elysium to me. So this would apply from Alan’s comment above:

This looks like the boat that was originally Stella Maris.  The ex-Elysium has more of a center cockpit IIRC.  It looks like the fixed ports in the house side might have been "adjusted" in the latest refit.  The boat was originally built as a cruiser and the original owner wanted a big house, raised interior, etc.  Pretty fast for a cruiser.....

Thanks Alan. A fun cruiser. Do you know any construction details or recent history?

Was it the Duggar’s?  How many kids/wives would one need to sail “cruise” that beast?

That's what I thought from this photo.

It is amazing to see so much damage caused when both boats are in motion with little speed difference. From the first picure i would imagine that pye was standing still when şhe got rammed by another boat at full speed.
