Quitting smoking (almost) 1 year in.

I would have been fairly sure that all the vaping I see, there -is- combustion. But you & Wofsey may be right, I don't know for sure.

And the smell definitely lingers in the same way tobacco smoke does....... gets in the hair, on clothes, car headliners, furniture (if you do it indoors) etc etc. Ask a non-smoker / non-vaper

Douche flutes!

But that vapor, it's thick and cool and it curls through the air in perfect high-Stokes turbulence. It's everything that smoke wants to be. It doesn't screw up the taste of gin or whisky the way the hot stuff does.

If luxuriating in cool vape makes me a douche, then batten down the hatches and lower the douche canoes into the River Douche, because I'm blasting through the piss and vinegar toward the liftoff of the douche rocket to the Planet Douchenstein.

False equivalencies really shit me.  It's like saying that you should not drink water because it is a major ingredient in a steaming turd.
Thanks for pointing that out.  I did not remember what I thought I did -- in fact it was *nicotine* that was the active ingredient in Black Flag (and other insecticides) for years.

family tragedy a couple years back put me on the habit after four years free of the stupid habit. last week something in me clicked and that was it, time i said fuck those things for good...been six days without (using juul mango for the time being) and survived a regatta weekend with a smoker with no problems or cravings. yesterday's hangover was a whole lot less miserable, i'm not hacking nasty shit every half hour, and my paddling, surfing and sailing endurance is sure to gain.

never again man, never again

I've quit 5 times.

The last time has been something like 10 years (I stopped counting after 1).

Every so often I get the urge, but then I just put an ashtray near my face, and it all goes away.

My wife still smokes like a chimney, but not inside the house anymore, and I only ride in her car if it's a medical emergency.

Pack/pack and a half of Lucky Strikes no filters for 20 + years and I kicked it in a few weeks..... Just do it.

The click thing is what makes it happen. Without it people are just kidding themselves.

If I could get decent rolling tobacco, I might indulge once in a great while..... But I can't, so I won't.

American Spirit has some good tobacco, but around here, it's all old stale, and dry....

And no, I'm not going to buy it on line..... It has to be an impulse buy that I regret minutes later.

I'm sorry for the tragedy, but it sounds like you're making a good move.

Kick it cold, the shit is bad for you!

When I was young I smoked cigarettes incessantly.  When my son was born 34 years ago, I didn't want him to be around my second hand smoke. It took several attempts but I made it permanent. There is kind of switch that goes off in the brain.  The torture of the stopping and starting back made me realize I didn't want to start again.
