RAINMAKER DISMASTED OFF HATTERAS IN GALE

Got a call from the White House looking for Clean's contact info. Seems they are having orgasms over there at the thought of Clean's new approach to journalism.
It's fucking fascinating to me that I can tell you 4000 times over 15 years that SA is not journalism and that I will never be and have never been a journalist, yet you are too stupid to retain it. Journalism is for 'journals', whatever those are. SA is not one.

Its got to be quite the pickle to have a big dick swinging advertizer as part of a grizzly story like this. While it isnt the boat or builders fault in my mind all that leaves is some shitty decision making on the captian/owner. A story that puts those guys in a bad light probably would kill the deal on a new boat or possibly harm the insurance claim somewhat and that shit runs down hill as well.

Cut Clean some slack that cant be easy to write something that aint fluff or fiction when an advertizer is involved. Maybe this isnt the perfect venue when thats the case but its kind of the only one so just take it with a grain of salt.
What a shame Pioneer Clean has to sort that out all alone. The NYT, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, NPR... Forbes, Vanity Fair, The Rolling Stone and those others never had to face a story where an advertiser could possibly be involved. We all know GM, FORD, and the other vehicle players never made an error or questionable move and would never advertise anyway.

How can there be advertisers anyway. The Journalist Clean reported the whole thing as free?
There you go again. If you feel like contributing 5,000$ to our journalism fund, I'll be happy to accelerate this by a few hours with the help of a 'journalist'. Meantime, I'm using your stupidity to procrastinate.

Spoken like an attorney.

(couldn't help myself)...

Now that we have pierced your thinning skin and have your attention. Maybe you can give a refresher on the rules and grounding principles of SA... I must have gone through the decade confused... I just did not think SA checking to make sure everything they wrote was OK and good to go was the standard practice? I just wonder if DC or Oracle Larry's stick fell in the water what say they would have in the prose of Alan?

"Probably have another two to four hours of editing to go before sending back to CB for his approval."

I am also a little surprised there is not more joy in the evidence that many on the pages are yearning for you to publish your "shit" as you called it... maybe Obama and congress could hire you to handle the press duties. CSPAN's ratings would go through the roof...

and with that post, you just made everyone in this thread stupider.

1) There is no 'right to know' anything from a private company. You do have a right to know what the CG did, or the results of official government investigations. That's what FOIA is for. Being a first-time poster on SA, you have the right to be remain silent. If you give up that right, you have the right to be ridiculed incessantly.

2) There was a 'sailing media' bias against investigating anything negative for about 30 years. SA changed that, but we're still one of maybe 4 sites worldwide to actually investigate anything in the sport. We have been investigating the Rainmaker loss the entire time.

3) If a boat needs to be designed to best navigate after a dismasting, there's a much bigger problem than windows.

4) Lessons learned: Don't leave in a winter storm. Don't bring inexperienced owners into potentially awful weather. There may be one or two more...

Got more?

1) When it comes to the intersection of safety and boat design choices, don sailors have a right to know (especially when its our tax dollars that pay for the rescue).

2) Boatbuilders pay $$ for advertising. Is there media bias against investigating?

3) GB no doubt makes fantastic boats, but if lessons learned about leaking engine hatches, difficulties keeping water in an indoor/outdoor salon setup from leaking down, problems with glass panels that nobody anticipated...

4) If Rainmaker's lessons learned do not get out, other sailors will be put into harms way. Is that enough suffering for you?

Fun to be back in a shitfight, even if there's only division 2 intellects to fight with.
I've got no dog in this fight, but stop being the fuckwit that promises stories and perpetually fails to deliver. Hell, we're still waiting on the Promises Kept breaking story. Just quit promising stories and life is good.

Six pages of mostly fluff, a fuzzy CG rescue video and......nada.

When GB & the insurers get the official version out, I'd say we're good for another 20 pages till maybe Memorial Day,

Brutal winters make for lotsa shit-slinging. You East Coast guys gotta get outside more.

There won't be an official version! ever. certainly not from insurers, and most likely a spun up marketing piece from GB.

As clean said above, the search is over. The insurers are probably negotiating a settlement and PJ / GB are busy selling new cats.

RM's fate will be either a crash landing on some remote shore, run down by a big hunk of steel in the night that won't even know they hit something, be spotted by a commercial or pleasure mariner, or simply vanish to eventually find davy jones...

Same story. I think since the owner is a member of Mr Clean's tribe, he killed the story!

In newspapers, the old principle used to be that there was a clear separation relationship between editorial decision-making and advertising sales; the two operate independently. That separation is now breaking down, as it has long done in magazines.
More good old days bullshit. The growth of the muckrakers was largely a response to the editorial weakness of newspapers before the turn of the 20th century, beholden to both political parties and advertising. Sound familiar?

It's always been an issue, and there will never be a good answer for it. A big part of my disdain for the word 'journalist'...
