In newspapers, the old principle used to be that there was a clear separation relationship between editorial decision-making and advertising sales; the two operate independently. That separation is now breaking down, as it has long done in magazines.
More good old days bullshit. The growth of the muckrakers was largely a response to the editorial weakness of newspapers before the turn of the 20th century, beholden to both political parties and advertising. Sound familiar?

It's always been an issue, and there will never be a good answer for it. A big part of my disdain for the word 'journalist'...
The worst are the ones with pink flags.

In case you guys haven't noticed, there is a parallel thread over on Multihull Anarchy. No real news there either except a cryptic post from Peter Johnstone yesterday with some sorta half-information. Still no detailedl post or days-in-editing interview. Instead we get a horse on a boat and a regurgitated story about ISAF on the front page to distract us.
What's your personal interest in the Gunboat loss?

In other words, what harm are you suffering from not receiving your free information now, rather than later?
When it comes to the intersection of safety and boat design choices, don sailors have a right to know (especially when its our tax dollars that pay for the rescue).

Boatbuilders pay $$ for advertising. Is there media bias against investigating?

GB no doubt makes fantastic boats, but if lessons learned about leaking engine hatches, difficulties keeping water in an indoor/outdoor salon setup from leaking down, problems with glass panels that nobody anticipated...

If Rainmaker's lessons learned do not get out, other sailors will be put into harms way. Is that enough suffering for you?
So you figure the insurance industry, the boat manufacturers, and wealthy boat buyers are all waiting to read a Sailing Anarchy article before making the important decisions concerning their future. Sailors will be put in harms way if Clean doesn't hurry with his article. Mr Clean- why are you killing the sailors ?

Clean says:

“2) There was a 'sailing media' bias against investigating anything negative for about 30 years. SA changed that, but we're still one of maybe 4 sites worldwide to actually investigate anything in the sport. We have been investigating the Rainmaker loss the entire time.”

Then he says:

“It's fucking fascinating to me that I can tell you 4000 times over 15 years that SA is not journalism and that I will never be and have never been a journalist, yet you are too stupid to retain it. Journalism is for 'journals', whatever those are. SA is not one.”

So a little bit of schizophrenia working here?

We know you’re not really a journalist. You just play one on the internet.

Why does 'investigation' mean 'journalist' to you? Do you have a learning disability?

Mr Clean- why are you killing the sailors ?

Leading Edge Gunboat Proves Unsinkable

After weeks of deep investigation by the crack Team of yachting and engineering resources available to SA the investigation report is out and the message clear. The Gunboat design, engineering, build, and crew performed flawlessly in the unprecedented recent super storm. While there may have been slight issues with some third party additions to the Gunboat hull. The Gunboat product delivered in the unheard of "whiteout" conditions. The revolutionary high performance design is clearly proven unsinkable. Delayed by the one of a kind storm, the Gunboat further proved to be a robust and stable platform to transfer to aviation resources allowing the owner to make important family commitments and demands(MILF wanted him home). Ladies every husband should have one. No brochure could adequately demonstrate the value and quality from Gunboat and their Tribe. See you at the free rum dispenser at the next boat show or ego gathering. Letter of Credit or introductions from your bankers are encourage.
That's pretty good, but allow me to make one suggestion...

You might try to work "Disruptive technology" into that, somewhere...

Kent Island!
In the flying world a certain carbon fiber airplane builder was advertizing their "dispruptive technology" that could do things other airplanes could not. All that marketing ended after enough dead people showed that the new tech was wrecked the same way the old tech was

Yeah. Fucking journalists are almost as bad as lawyers. Only difference is journalists still have a scruple or two remaining.

Clean,

I don't know if you're a journalist or not. but I am interested in how you're writing your report. some questions:

-Who have you interviewed other than the skipper? Is this just the skipper's account or will it include the sort of questions for GB, Irens, Hall and the owner that people keep asking?

-Who if anybody is refusing to comment to you?

-do you know if they are they talking to any other journalists? Who?

-Why are they silent? (sure, people stay quiet for insurance reasons but if that were the real issue, they wouldn't be talking to you either. And PJ wouldn't have selectively chimed in recently)

-Who are you consulting with on content? Eg, are you in contact with PJ?

-will your article cover design issues in any depth?

Genuinely Interested. They're quick questions and easily answered. They won't spoil the story's actual content. I guess I can pm the same questions but do I need to?

Actually Clean is a damned good writer, a decent photographer, reasonable videographer and living the life he loves. I knew him when he was just a miserable lawyer living in the center of culture of the universe a/k/a Detroit. Now he’s the Howard Cosell of sailing. Damn good gig if you can get it...
