The captain and crew are far more experienced than myself - but it's my understanding that there was no steerage issue.

The rudders were good and the boat was making way.

Why ram the ship?
Floater.. one engine in gear on a cat will cause it to turn with rudders hard ovedr in strong wind it is difficult just to go straight let alone get good steerage and jumping in the rib to try n pull it ...into the sea n wind ...to get next to a ship?...you try it and see how easy it is...y the fuk did i klik this dead thread anyway?

My former boss would run his Lagoon all the time on one engine, without a problem. Obviously not while trying to come alongside a freighter in a 25 knot Gunboat gale, though.

Using the RIB to transfer crew makes perfect sense, I have no idea why they didn't do that.

But then again, they might have been killed by its completely exposed giant spinning prop.
since you seem to be obsessed by giant spinning props ... something freudian ?? B)

As a matter of fact, this does happen, and that's not hearsay, that's own experience. Ship goes over a wave, wavelength is far greater than what you see close to shore, poop comes out of the water and inside the ship you suddenly hear this frightening high pitch whirring noise ... time to throttle back the chief eng. would call to the bridge, not very healthy.

Question is of course if conditions were such that it would happen, going by the pix I would say no, but then on the other hand it's very hard (paging Eisberg, paging Eisberg) to take pix from ships in such a way as to show the real waveheight /wavelength... each time I thought I finally had a good pic or good video of the waves, it turned out to be a bit of a letdown when viewing.

Because they are not complete idiots.

Hats off to the principals here. The lawyers no doubt squash some ability to respond but I am impressed by the ability to keep a united front.

just so i'm up to date...

is it the case that some people don't believe CB when he says he saw the props?

Saw the prop, or that it came completely out of the water? The former quite likely, the latter I'm skeptical.
is the difference really significant?

either would be scary under the circumstances
apparently it added to the panic.
Ok - i saw the props mentioned in a few threads, in what appeared to be a pretty sarcastic manner..,

and i was just wondering why the pitchfork mob was so interested in them.

Only if one is considering the veracity of all of the facts in the report. It would be hard to confuse 'a

completely exposed massive spinning prop a few feet from our bow' with 'Saw the prop'. You can see part of a prop

when they are at the dock. This has been discussed in the Bill O'Reilly School of Journalism thread in PA, or the

'I Call Bullshit' thread. If the professional captain saw the tanker up so close (whoops, it wasnt a tanker) then I

would say the seas had to be much greater than the 10-16 feet claimed by everyone.

Also I have nothing else to fixate on yet today
