My first car was a '68 VW bus and later had '59 Westfalia Safari bus. It was replaced by a '76 Transporter. My Dad left a '80's Westfalia when he died and my Stepmom is begging me to come get it!

The air-cooled Vanagons have become very popular with the Airheads (die-hard VW enthusiasts that refuse to accept VW has water-cooled engines), the Westys not so much - the water-cooled and Subi conversion are still top dog for those. The "creamsicles," aptly named for its color combination with the sunroof, are fetching some insane prices... but still cheaper than the traditional style bus.

That looks just like my 'creamsicle' that I bought in the Islands. The guy who shipped it down and sold it to me told me that he bought it from a salvage auction house. It had been abandoned on the Interstate somewhere with a burnt out engine and some bullet holes around the air vent aft. Cops though it must have been a pot smuggling run that got highjacked as there was a good bit of 'shake' left in the bus. It didn't handle the steep rough dirt roads as well as my '59 Westy with the transfer cases on the rear axles. With a blueprinted 1600 dual port motor that old split window Sufari bus could pull stumps and the Rastas on the Island just loved it. It was known as the RastaSurfarian and I sure miss it. A big pothole finally dropped the steering column out of the front end and it sort of committed Sepuku in a most violent way!

This is a pretty good facsimile of the RastaSurfariSamba but I never drove it in snow!
