The movie did a good job of capturing those times and portraying the abundant desperation in Tinsel Town, but Tarantino loses me when he does his over the top violence thing and to include the Manson connection showed his tendency towards titillation in the place of better writing.
We were hanging out partying on the Strip at Pink's, the Whiskey and up in the Hills back when Tarantino was 5 years old.
He writes B movies compared to what really went on back then.
