Steam, I was a summer camp counselor in 1970, and taught a model rocketry workshop along with another counselor whose uncle was the VP of Estes Industries. We were able to get everything and anything Estes made- including the then exotic Camroc, etc. We got so jaded by the excess that we got to the point that we didn't care if a particular model was recovered. We did multi-staging, clustering, whatever the hell we felt like. It was a glorious summer!
I thought the Camroc was so cool at the time! built one of those and a Gemini. never had any luck with multi-stage. did have a lot of fun with those things.

I couldn't afford one of those, but it was very cool to get those shots BITD. Anybody talking about battery powered flying drones with video would have been locked up.

I built and flew some of those rockets, good fun at the time! Before that, I remember my Dad rolling up a Time magazine cover around a pencil. He stapled one end closed, then filled the tube with wooden match tip fuel. Stuck the pencil eraser into it, stuck the pointed end in the ground and lit off a small hole he punched in the tube at the bottom of the "fuel stack". Cheap fun at the time!
