I wonder how many people drive to the top of mauna kea to see what it looks like from there. Drove my family up there for 10 minutes and drove back down. Incredible place to stand on a clear sunny day.

People are all parking along saddle road in the evening and watching the glow. It's pretty busy when the volcano goes off.

No. Its a public road. There is no gate going up the road to the observatories.

Winds this morning are pretty light. I don't smell any vog right now. But this afternoon the winds will be back I am sure.

The above photo was taking from the Subaru Observatory. And, yes, its snowing in Hawaii.

This is what the Subaru Telescope usually looks at. This is the Pleiades star cluster consists of thousands of young stars. It's also known as the "Seven Sisters," named for the stars you can see with an unaided eye.

Looking at pictures like that makes my head hurt. The enormity of it is so incomprehensible.

No. Its a public road. There is no gate going up the road to the observatories.

It just eats cars. I almost killed our rental car going up there. Every warning light on the dash was on

That's the current ML eruption. Long fissures are very common for ML eruptions at start, then slowly reduce to a few points as eruption continues.

Are you working on telescopes there? And is Honolulu airport open and business as usual? My wife flys back to US thru there next week.
