This could be interpreted in two ways

1) police pressured by public service to drop the case whilst the DPP wants to pursue it

Or

2) police do not believe they can secure a conviction. Under “pressure” from the ACT Labor Government the DPP pursues the case and is now trying to cover his arse.

Who has more to lose, the DPP or the many police in the chain of command(who can do a Dan and not remember)?

A union leader writing one letter to defend his members reputation becomes the entire ACT police force 'going into meltdown.' Of course if it was any other union you would be in rapture, but because of your pathological hatred of all police (see the V Green thread) you are the one going into meltdown rainy face.
Let me guess - years ago you got busted for something, gave the cops grief about your 'Rights', maybe even punched one, and got 20 shades of shit kicked out of you.
Perhaps some old fuzzy haired old lag put his hand down your shorts while you were in the watch house as well.

He was frothing at the mouth to run this case. National media coverage, becoming the hero of the left, maybe an AO from a grateful labor government -this was a career making case.

The coppers, having investigated the entire thing knew that at best she was an unreliable witness (and at worst a lying little cow). They also could find no evidence at all of her claim and knew there was no chance in hell of getting a conviction.

Someone in the ACT government saw this as a great way to help bring down the federal government and interfered with the process.

After days of Jury deliberation as it becomes obvious that it was going to be a hung jury and thus an acquittal, a document mysteriously appeared that stopped that happening.

By then he realized that he did not have a snowflakes chance in hell of ever finding 12 people stupid and biased enough to believe his crappy case (because he had nothing and they can't move the trial to Melbourne) no matter how many times they ran it.

So to save face they come up with the story that her mental health is too fragile to run the trial again and for optics they whip her off to a care facility where her boyfriend starts posting happy snaps and she announces that she can not wait to get back in the ring to give evidence at the Defos.

A miraculous recovery.

Mr Woodhouse told The Australian the commission 'needs to explore whether Mr Drumgold let his own thirst for media attention or own political affiliations cloud what is supposed to be his independent judgment in such matters'.

'DCPO stated "if it was my choice I wouldn't proceed. But it's not my choice. There is too much political interference",' Det Supt Moller wrote.

'I said: "That's disappointing given I think there is insufficient evidence".'
