there's a bit of a hubub up here in maine, the vessel Raw Faith, a replica ship designed to honor handicapped people and take them sailing has been towed back to port for the second time, this time a (triple) dismasting. The captain has long been scrambling for funds for this ship and its seaworthyness has been questionned more than once.

for those interested in a story of a dream failed, go to: http://knox.villagesoup.com/Government/sto...m?storyID=72266

Raw Faith also has a webpage: http://www.rawfaith.org/forums/index.php?topic=26.0 will lead you to the forum where this morning the wife of a member of the coast guard is upset about her husband risking his life in the rescue.

Looks like they took down the forum. Actually, spending some time poking around the site, is this some kind of joke? The "articles" are incomprehensible, and the comments look like they were written by 1000 monkeys sitting at typewriters.

Regardless, that hunk of crap was anchored out in Winthrop over the summer - we took a quick spin around it. you could see daylight through the planking. This morning on the news they said it was "home built" - of popsicle sticks? Thank you, you douche nozzles, for putting your lives and the lives of your rescuers at risk. And at least either have two survival suits, or have none.

I'm glad no one died. I'm also very hopeful that the "ship" will not be recovered. That thing was a menace and I hope to never see it again.

Welcome to the USA

Just be glad that you do not need a 'permit' to go sail or even own a boat.

Yet..

Sail safe!

The only reason that thing floated in the first place was that it was made out of wood. How did two guys think they could sail a 118' three masted schooner with no auxiliary power from MA to Bermuda in December? Oh yeah, I think they were planning on sharing a survival suit, too. That asshole needs his head examined.

I first saw this boat at spragues where it was tied up last fall. I couldn't stop staring at it -I wasn't sure how it stayed floating.
