Raymarine Axiom 9 - map is low res - what did I break ?

The unit is in good shape and worked great last time out (3 weeks ago).

Yesterday the map display was very coarse and did not show any details in the water (depth etc).

The land was ok if satellite overlay was selected.

The current position of the boat was displayed correctly, as were all other data.

I am assuming that everything is ok, but that I turned something off accidentally. If anybody can clue me in, I would appreciate it.

Cheers,

perhaps it did not load the mapping program on start up. This leaves a base map with no detail. Doing a full power off re- start May help, or maybe your chart subscription expired.

Thank you. Both possibilities are plausible.

I poked around a little in Settings yesterday but I didn’t need it and I didn’t stress about it. Slightly embarrassed to admit that I didn’t turn it Off and On again.

I bought the boat w the unit installed 3+ years ago and never saw any expiration notice either yesterday or before. It’s possible that a sub ran out but a little less likely.

Will try again tomorrow.

There is a 'simple' display mode on the axiom plotters which omits a lot of detail like soundings and makes some features larger which might make it look lower resolution. I have inadvertently activated it before and wondered what was going on - the setting is one of the large buttons on the main menu from the chart page. Obvious once you know it's there but you might overlook it otherwise. Subscription status shouldn't affect any visible detail on the chart, but will prevent using things like auto-routing and syncing with mobile devices depending on which charts you are using.

If it is really rudimentary - like a child's crayon drawing - then you don't have a valid map cartridge installed. On the Axiom it is in back of the unit and is a microSD. If it looks kinda like a chart but lacking a lot of detail then you might have the chart view set to "simple". Also, the chart app might not have the chart cartridge you have selected. Explore the settings in the chart app.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Solution: tried multiple restarts, reseating the card etc but no joy.

I then started poking around in Settings like DDW suggested. I found a bunch of maps of different types, and eventually, found the one that must have been the one I had been using.

Still no clue why it unloaded it, but all is now good and I learned a few more useful
bits about the unit in the process.

Thank you very much everyone!
