I'm on holiday this week so haven't been on the portal (banned by my wife!)... but the article says all teams (including INEOS) are boomless with the same system, which I haven't seen... I am hoping this article is wrong and they will have a different take on it worth discussing.

I just can't believe no one can take a step forward from where etnz were in 2021. Etnz are handing that tech out as an OD on the AC40... surely it won't be cutting edge by 2024?! I can think of about 3 different ways to get the mainsheet hydraulic out of the clew myself for heavens sake and that would clean things up alot!

If/when your wife allows you a few precious minutes, please post any pics there may be, of the new ETNZ foil?

@Mozzy Sails
I'm not sure they would put something innovative like that on their test boats. Too much time to copy, and too little to gain in terms of testing evidence.

So we may yet get something new.

What is learned about a new test foil from that video?

Foiling boat foils
See boat foil

It's like watching a plane fly by...
Yes, you would think that an old recon team would have close ups that can be used to determine sizes, angles, etc….

All teams are the same now. but I doubt it's where we will be in 18 months time.

The new ETNZ recon report is out and there are heaps of photos of the new foil..

Funny how these boats and appendages are looking pretty now where initially everything as ugly to me from the boats to the foils.

Not really sure, but probably familiarity is breeding acceptance for me.

Everything is where it's always been.

Thanks, good discussion of the possible advantages of the curved anhedral foil and how they were using it.

"excluding yachts of classes existing on 17th March 2021, providing they are used only with their
standard equipment for participation in and preparation for their in‐class racing."

And you certainly can't change the foils on an F50 and stay in class.
how about this one from San Francisco? might have issues with the foils having way less controlls back then.

There is no in-class racing for that class anymore, so it wouldn't seem to comply.
so what. comply with the final rules and it is still class legal. throw in herbie too if you want.

I know it's highly unlikely an AC72 would ever sail again, but a small part of me hopes that this could be the only way to get on one the water.

No problem with sailing it, but stick new foils on it and I suspect there might be some protests
That is a very good point.
as it turns out this prada one is unlikely to see much water in it's life again either.

I guess any AC boat with a wingsail is never going to be used after it's cup race for much*, so it is actually quite cool that some of the AC75 V1 boats are atleast being used for a bit of R&D now. That hasn't happened since IACC days.

*well there is the F50 that sails for SailGP. some of those boats are from the AC35 bermuda, originally at least.

I think it depends how you read this passage:

"providing they are used only with their
standard equipment for participation in"

Used for participation in... Or equipment for participation in?

i.e. is the meaning different if it was this:

"providing they are used only, with their
standard equipment, for participation in"

@porthos might be able to help

I don't think it matters, the AC72 class rule states "Daggerboards shall not have components such as trim tabs or moveable winglets that can be adjusted while racing; however, a movable or retractable device the sole purpose of which is the removal of weed or debris is permitted."

So any daggerboard that had such would be out of class and so would not be legal testing. And anything that doesn't have anything like would probably not give you any worthwhile testing

The USA AC72 is also in a museum, in Rhode Island, and the wing was dismantled in the SF area. Not sure what ever happened to the Artemis Big Blue. And am guessing ETNZ's AC72 will never sail again either. Too bad, loved that class.

Yay, Mozzy!

Matteo Plazzi has spent a lifetime involved with the America's Cup, including winning onboard Oracle in AC33 on the huge Deed of Gift cats. Now he works for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli with amongst other roles a responsibility for representing the team on the AC37 Recon Panel. We interview Matteo to find out what Luna Rossa feel about the new 'spy game' for the upcoming cup.

^ The audio quality from Matteo's end was a bit rough. Watched it again, this time on a laptop, with CC titles turned on and it made better sense.
