You are allowed one flap for each wing. But there is no limit on the number of segments. And the segments don't have to be joined in anyway for them still be be considered 'one flap'.

That get around the challenges of the last cup where INEOS had to demonstrate that they had one flap either side of the symmetry line, not two, and the flex material in between the segments are also part of the flap.

Maybe... if INEOS have had in the back of their mind a wish to return to the W foil, that the drafting of the rule to allow multiple segments was one of their 'rule drafting wins'? Perahps ETNZ were happy to watch them try and make complicated multi segmented wings after what happened last time where the essentially one flap, one segment system of ETNZ won out.

Good video @Mozzy Sails , but why cannot hydraulic actuators be lifted up in the same way as the electric ones were. The old exemption allowing electrical ones to control multiple flaps is unneeded now.

For that matter a future iteration of Ineos flap could lift some out potentially if this is just an engineering test bed.

As you say, potential for lots of different tech still

Well in this cup it can be hydraulic. But they won't be allowed to change it to hydraulic under legacy rules.
Purely a workaround to be allowed a single actuator in last cup.
And they are blurring it, becuase whilst it may not be useful for this cup, it's still 'trade secret'.

It's a theory. But I think makes a lot a sense in the context of the foils we saw, the new rule and foils we are now seeing.

Makes sense. With lighter winds and waves this time, the question is whether it is still the right side of trade offs I guess .
I can't check right now, are they allowed to choose different foils for different races at all? How much notice?
