President Biden, today, declared February to be Black History Month. Republicans in the House countered by declaring it March. - Jimmy Kimmel

That's unfortunate. I used to like "alternative theory" and listen to Art Bell, et al., talk to the marginalized about their marginal ideas. Alex Jones, et al., destroyed that innocence. UNB philosophy professor Doctor Ferrari was big on flat earth in probably a tongue in cheek way. Sincere flat earthers now hate him for being their Devil's Advocate.

A Republican-backed bill seeks to rename part of a Tennessee street dedicated to Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the late civil rights leader, in order to “honor” former President Donald Trump.

The bill, sponsored by Tennessee state Rep. Paul Sherrell (R) and state Sen. Frank Niceley (R), would rename a portion of Nashville’s Fifth Avenue that had been named after Lewis. The section is between James Robertson Parkway and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Boulevard.

Tennessee state Rep. Justin Jones (D) also criticized the proposed renaming and wrote on Twitter that the bill was “about more than a street name.”

“It’s yet another white supremacist attack on Black history,” Jones wrote.

“It’s spitting on the grave of our ancestor. It’s memorializing hate. Best believe, we’ll fight back.”

Was he the one who declared that it was "turtles, all the way down"? Because we now know for certain that there are elephants involved as well.

Doctor Ferrari was unique, maybe he wasn't as unique as the philosophy professor in Halifax who turned up at a protest against himself over cartoons of Mohammed with a "down with me" sign.

There is a wealth of choices of where to put this.

The people doing this would tell you they are NOT banning books. They would tell you that they are simply removing the books until such time as the students grow into adults and can make informed choices on what is appropriate.

By the time these children are adults they will have already formed opinions these issues. And if we can remove informative information that supports these issues from being present in their formative years then there is a much greater chance they will grow up thinking these things are simply "abnormal" (sound familiar @Dog 2.0 ?) and, by extension, abhorrent. It is a form of teaching through dishonesty.

The same thought process follows through to the question of black history education. If children are not exposed to the idea that we have royally screwed up in the way we have treated black people over the last 200 years, then by the time they are grown adults they will have based their opinion only on what they have heard in the mass media.

It is a way of literally making our children more stupid by refusing them the materials they need to learn about these issues.

If you could get republicans to speak their minds with a semblance of truth you'd hear a different story. This isn't about just suspending access to the material because they think it's age inappropriate. That's just an excuse. They disagree with the subject matter entirely even when it's a matter of simple documented history. And so they don't want their children to realize how badly we fucked up. Whether it is a case of simple intellectual dishonesty or basic stupidity on their part is something left up to the reader to decide.

It is kinda stunning how they seem to prefer ignorance.

Of course, people without awareness/knowledge of issues are easier to dupe (Hi, Dog!) and manipulate.

Interesting,
So what age do we stop learning about fake beings controlling us? Angels, Santa Claus to name a few?
What one book talks about the Evils of mankind, from Aliens, to gays, trans, bestiality, incest, and the really bad stuff such as wars, violence, murder and all that stuff.
Well, the great comic book shall be banned, for its mind control bullshit. the Bible.

The Bible should be on every schools banned list!!

We are a Country founded upon seperation of Church and State.

Bibles, Torah's, Korans etc. should be taught in ones chosen place of worship, not in non-religous public schools!

Will obviously not happen. But the hypocrisy about why the Bible should be INCLUDED when all these other books should be excluded is pretty damn funny.
