It's not really working for general IRC regatta sailing in the UK to be honest. 15 entries for the IRC nats in 3 weeks currently... 44 IRC boats on the Cowes week entry list.

Meanwhile 147 boats did the Myth of Malham. It isn't offshore racing that has a participant issue.
Wow, that's terrible! Back when I was on the scene in the first decade of the 2000s those were go-to regattas.

Or possibly, where the class 1 lower TCC bound came to be. Same as Ino Noir to 3 decimal places.

Nice to get an extra season on the water versus any custom builds ordered on the basis of this annoucement.

It would be very much in the spirit of the AC for the whole thing to get shitcanned by a ratings protest before a gun has been fired.

Could well be called Commodore's Cup right away.

That's what the blooper was for, could broach either way!
And if you were lucky and both broaches happened together you continued in a straight(ish) line.

Having said that I raced on her a few times & she was far from the hardest boat to get down hill.

I would have added a third team as an inshore boat such as the Cape 31. While the big boats go offshore for the big points, in shore boats could be doing multiple short races potentially racking up a lot of small points.
Could keep the scorline interesting to the very end.

Soley, I like your idea but think it could be expanded on. Why not use the TP52/Super Series 52 box rule as the big boats, the Fast 40 rule for the middle boats, and Cape 31s as the small boats. Make the 52s and 40s go offshore, and create a point to point 5 day series for the 31s, like a shorter version of the old Tour de France a voilie the Mumm 30s did back in the day.

I actually had a conversation with a buddy today that this would have been really cool if the RORC made it a 4 year series where you had to do the Sydney-Hobart, Transpac, Newport to Bermuda race, Caribbean 300, Middle Sea Race, then Fastnet, as the offshore races. And for the inshore races, pick a big race week down under, San Fran big boat series, NYYC race week or Block Island Race Week, Key West, then pick a big race week in the Med, then to the Solent for the last year. Make it a true World Series of racing. But pick a proper big boat, like an offshore capable Maxi 72, then the TP52, a Fast 40, and the Cape 31 for point to point racing.

Seems like this version of the Admirals Cup will be a glorified local race series.

RORC is a London/Cowes members yacht club. They are not a commercially driven entity and they are not trying to create a World Series. They would like to encourage some top end owners to come and race in the Solent and go on to the Fastnet. That is what the Admiral’s Cup was always for.

Aye, but it also was a regatta for teams of more than one boat. I think that’s part of its DNA.

It will be teams of two boats. I have no insider knowledge of why two rather than the historical three but I presume RORC has been canvassing owners and concluded three wasn’t viable.

Cowes Week has been in decline for years, it had become a corporate entertainment regatta and when company cash disappeared there were few corinthians left. I never liked the regatta and always preferred Dartweek or racing in France. Better racing and cheaper with a bit of an "away day" feel rather than racing around the Solent which I can do 12 months a year.

Offshore and especially Fastnet is a bucket list thing for many sailors and owners. Whilst you need safety kit the other costs are qay less than (say) Cowes Week with its expensive berthing, having to rent a house and then 8 days of drinking

that applies to local residents
that applies to travellers.

you seem to complain about both!
